When you factor in what the cost of the sports wagering gaming licenses will be, plus the money and connections that it takes to be "selected" for one of these precious licenses by the gaming commission, it will certianly only be the "big boys". No way you're going to see an "independent" IMO.

Zero chance. Even if it gets by the state - Delaware already tried to expand sports betting, and they only got what they had due to the 'grandfathering' clause. The Federal ban was upheld there, and it will upheld despite New Jersey's efforts. I do wish them luck, however, and I hope they continue fighting. We need less nonsense restrictions like this one.

I agree with all of the above posters. I don't think we will ever see the expansion of sports betting outside of Nevada. But I also think it is for the best. If sports betting goes mainstream throughout the nation it will bring with it the corruption of both collegiate and pro sports. And this is not meant to denigrate the players here who, for the most part, merely wager for enjoyment, but the big outfits who would have so much money at their disposal that it would overshadow even the hefty salaries of professional athletes and thereby corrupt the integrity of the sports. Hell, even today we're merely 'lucky' to hear about fixes with Boston College, fixes with Arizona, the NYU scandal, the Pete Rose affair, the Donaghy affair, or the San Diego State fiasco. Don't you grow suspicious when an official makes a questionable call? How about the Mets trainer who is incidentally swept up and identified as a bookmaker taking hundreds of thousands in bets. Oh, and I certainly feel so much better and so reassured when the same article assures us that "there was no indication, however, that the subject took any baseball bets." (That's not to say he certainly didn't call anybody to 'make' any bets on his own behalf, just like Donaghy's bullsh-t that "I didn't make any bets on games I was officiating," or "My bets did not influence any of my calls."
