I just joined there recently but in the 4 or 5 times I have chatted with them they have asked me for my password. But over at Bet JM it seems like they have not asked. If that makes any difference to you.

Yep, most book will ask for both the acct. and pass...nothing to be alarmed about though.

No UK book would ever do this. The first time this happened to me at an offshore book (Ages ago) it felt 'wrong' & not good from a security point of view.

Ok nothing happened & I didn't get hacked, but surely it must create all kind of potential for account fraud

As others have stated yes it is normal.
However when this has happened to me I have always just given my account number, told them I did not feel comfortable in giving out my password in live chat. They have always still been helpful and took care of whatever issue I had.

I would think if they allowed anyone with a computer and your account number to "chat" about your account without verifying your pw, that would create more fraud than anything. It's easy for scammers to get acct numbers, some books use very unsophisticated systems for assigning acct numbers. It's the password that gives the extra layer of security. If someone was going to "hack" your pw they would hack it just as easily when you log into your acct online as they would hack a chat. Why would you feel ""dirty" about giving the rep your password? If they wanted your password they could get it without asking you for it anyway. They obviously have access to the info since they're the ones verifying it when you give it to them.

I've used their live chat twice and both times they asked for password. I dont really understand why they need account # and pw when you already had to use your account # and pw in order to logon to your account in order to get into live chat with them.

They have a LiveChat option on their homepage, you dont need to sign in with acct#/pw to access it

Yes not a problem, they asked for my password, I was hesitant. Gave it to them, called to verify and it was legit. Shouldn't be a problem

not the best ones who employ state of the art security

I would never give my online password in chat or over the phone ... only the IT system should ever know your password
