I'm talking about one of these $50,000 or $100,000 parlays.

Has anyone ever hit one and actually been paid or does the book pull out some shady rules at the last minute?

I got stiffed when I hit a $50 for $20,500 parlay of 10 teams once, but it was with a douche bag local bookie operating a stupid credit shop. Obviously he had other customers that stiffed him so he couldn't afford to pay me. He changed his phone number and moved to a different location in 3 days before I can find him. What a prick.

My friend hit a $20 for $3500 parlay on BetJamaica and he got paid.

Lesson: NEVER play with a local bookie running a stupid little credit shop. Always go with post up shop because they have the money to pay out. Credit shop are just idiots trying to be bookies.

Or better yet, don't play a 10 team parlay for $50 bucks with a local.

I don't bet parlays, but I did hit for a good chunk of change on a futures bet one time (about $35K). It was the year that the Rockies won a bunch of games in a row to get back into the NL West race. Sportsbook.com did not update their baseball futures odds on a daily basis. The Rockies had won about 8 straight games and were right in the playoff hunt when I hit their very stale lines for the max. I put $1,000 on Colorado to win the pennant, and $1,000 to win the World Series.

I cannot remember what the odds were, but if I remember correctly I had them at about 35 to 1 to win the NL and 80 to 1 to win the WS. They won the pennant, so I won about $34K in total, and they paid me. It's a good thing they paid, because I hedged against the Rockies at other books in every playoff series they played. They cut my futures bet and prop limits though.

Make sure you play at a good book. Some books don't pay.

I think that was 2007 as I recall. You're lucky as hell you didn't bet something similar in 2006--in mid October 2006, they pulled a stunt where they announced they were leaving the US market because of the UIGEA and canceled all pending bets, refunding the stake. I can't remember if it was in my account or someone I worked with, but we had a fair number of football futures with positive equity, and people on the forums mentioned having NL, AL, and World Series futures that were canceled, which sucked because at the time there were only 2 teams left in each league.

A few days later, sportsbook.com announced they were re-entering the US market but didn't reinstate those futures bet. The really crooked thing is that they graded MLB futures on the 26 teams that had already been eliminated as a loss, so backers of 26 teams lost and backers of 4 teams got refunds. What a nice freeroll sportsbook.com was able to set up.

You're right. Local bookies running a shady idiotic credit shop are scum bags. You lose, you must pay up. You win, they vanish in thin air. Screw those local bookies. Offshore post up shop all the way over a local knucklehead.

                    Around 2003, I hit a parlay with Sportsbook.com for $17,000 (deposited like $300)

They sent me an email proclaiming as the "big winner of the week" and all this jazz. I was so excited. I had about $1500 to my name, and couldn't stop thinking about the money and what I would do with it. Not one time did I think I would not be paid 100%.

After 8 weeks and 100 phones calls, they finally agreed to put the money back into my account (took it out when I requested FULL withdrawal) and I lost back down to around $4000. They then quickly processed the withdrawal with no further delay, the next day.

Of course, I should not have bet back, but it took 8 weeks, and I emailed certain items (my driver's license, house utility bills, etc.) 3 times and it was a nightmare attempting to withdrawal. I was frustrated, and being the gambler than I was, just took it out betting 2k/game (I had never bet over $300/game before this ).

This was before I have heard of SBR (if it existed)

Learned a great lesson, and this was a quick intro the to real world for a young gambler.

I think you're memory is a bit off in this case, although I would have to review old emails in order to be sure. I also had pending futures wagers cancelled by a book associated with Sportsbook.com. I believe it was Sportingbetusa or something like that. They were definitely in the same "family" of books as Sportsbook.

They cancelled my positive equity NFL futures bets, which infuriated me. They were a British book and I even tried to complain to some kind of British agency. It is true that they kept the money for bets which had "already lost", as in teams already elminated from playoff contention, which is completely unethical, as you mention. However, if I remember correctly, Sportsbook never did cancel pending futures wagers for US based customers. That family of books did announce Sportsbook as having spun off into an "independent" company, supposedly under managers who were leaving the main company, in order to be a US facing book. I am sure that they are full of shit and that the "managers" were not starting a new company. I remember asking if my Sportingbetusa futures bets could be moved to the "new" Sportsbook.com and I was told no.

It is just another reason for me to think of Sportsbook.com's management as scummy, and to this day I love taking money from them. However, if I remember correctly, I never had any pending futures bets cancelled from my Sportsbook.com account, just from books controlled by the same company.
