I'm reading that Cantor gaming will be running the Trop when it opens after remodeling. Also, that they'll be running the Cosmopolitan when it opens ~December.

Currently, they're said to run the M and the Venetian/Palazzo.

BUT: the V doesn't have the same lines as the M, right? I'm asking, I don't really know.

So, my question is, will the Trop in the fall have the same lines as the M, or the V, or will they be independent? IOW, does Cantor run the book, or just provide the in-running action? Does Cantor actually set lines for ANY book, aside from it's hand-held devices for in-running action?

No, some sportsbooks--most, in fact, at this point--are affiliates. They're one big sportsbook with many different outlets. The lines are the same at all MGM properties, for example.

But for in-running bets, I don't know what Cantor is doing. My question is about the regular line offers, and whether Cantor is/will be managing them. And apparently no one here is sufficiently connected to know, either.

joe last i knew M and Venetian operated with independent lines. specifically for baseball i know M is a dime line place where Venetian operates under the typical strip 20 cent line.

hopefully the Trop goes independent as well. i've heard a number of people say that a pretty well known veteran sports book manager will be the head of the Trop's sports book. i'm sorry i can't remember his name right now, but it is the same guy who was hired to be manager of the sports book at Fountainbleu before it went bankrupt during construction.

You're almost right here.

Cantor gaming will be running the Tropicana book (currently it's part of the Leroy's chain), but they won't be running the Cosmopolitan. Being an MGM property, that casino will use the MGM lines, but they will use Cantor gaming's patented in-game betting software that's currently only available at the Venetian and "M." Both M and TI are independent books with their own lines. TI is also an independent book.

From Ian's post it sounds like Cantor will be RUNNING the Trop book, not merely doing the in-game betting. But I'm not aware of them running any other books, that is, apart from in-game betting. Will this be a first for them? Or do they run the M or the V (obv, not both, those two being independent).

I don't remember. I read it in an article in an article in Gaming Today (the newsletter they give out for free in Vegas sportsbooks). Gaming Today has a website so you might find the article their.

I was on the Cantor Gaming website today for other reasons and found a link to their press release about the Trop.

If you've ever been to the Tropicana sportsbook, you know it's one of the biggest dives in town. They must be doing a complete face lift.

Also, if Cantor is running the book does that mean their machine that sets and adjusts the in-game lines at the M will set and adjust the daily lines at the Trop?

Cantor Gaming provides the In-running action only (except the M Resort, which they completely own and operate on a lease), and the software is the same at all properties. Currently, it is offered at M Resort, Venetian/Palazzo, Hard Rock, and soon Tropicana. Each property sets their own lines that you can bet "off the board", with the in-running lines feeding from LVSC (Las Vegas Sports Consultants). The advantage that the M Resort currently offers over any of the others is that their "off the board" lines are fed into their in-running wagering devices so that you can wager your account balance on regular games. The other properties only offer the in-running lines on their devices and you must go to the window to wager on anything off the board, which can be a pain. The M Resort is a stand alone book that sets their own lines and offers the absolute highest limits in town.

Oh, and Phil Ruffin acquired T.I. from MGM/Mirage and their sportsbook "claims" to be independent. However, I have seen much if any changes from the Mirage lines since it was sold, FWIW.
