recently, I read several balance conficatons from a BetFair, which is an A rating site. how can an A+ site confiscate player's money? how can they take adventages from players? how will they spend those confiscated money?

they trapped their players. they won't remind them if players playing in a way violating their company's rule. when players violate their policy, they will assume legally steal their money to profit their business without any explanations.

more ignorant comment about Betfair!
I've been watching Betfair very closely since before they made a bid to get licensed in Australia.
They are a very smart and utterly professional outfit. They will stop at nothing to keep their name clean with the authorities to give them the best chance of gaining footholds in new territory.
So anyone who violates their strict rules designed to keep them clean and free of scandal is going to get closed down.
One strike and you're out policy.
And that would also apply to how they deal with player funds. They don't "steal" them when they close a player's account as it seems a lot of offshore books my be doing, but forward them on to the appropriate authorities as required by anti-money laundering etc legislation.

What are people doing to break the rules? What rules do sports books have? I guess I need to read up. I am using Bookmaker, 5dimes, and bodog...
Are my funds safe?

This was 3 players, how many people is use betfair? With betfair I could have balances up to 30,000 and its safe as the bank, its always a small risk everywhere but IMO betfair is safer than most companies (I cross my fingers)
it should be intresting if thoose 3 players have playing poker too or if its just sportsbetting?? For myself I closed my poker-alias and only play sportsbetting. and I never had any problem. (This way I cant lose money for hacking and chip-dumping.)

if their players broke their rules, they was supposed to close their account and refund the full balance. that's how A sites work.

if they have violated laws rather than just the site's rules the matter is beyond Betfair's jurisdiction .. they would be required under law to refer the matter to the authorities who would confiscate the funds

Maybe. But they didn't say this. And they didn't tell the players this. If a government's law tells you to take a player's balance (including a deposit) due to a law, you could at least tell the player this. The fact that Betfair is not specifying a legal basis under a nation's law for taking their balance suggests that there is no law supporting this, and it is a Betfair management decision.

Had the players referred the case to the gambling commission or IBAS, Betfair would have been legally obligated to provide an explanation. The fact that the players didn't do this (at least to public knowledge) and instead went to SBR would suggest to me they knew they wouldn't like the outcome and were hoping to use SBR/public pressure to get a 'goodwill' payout.

Perhaps the players would get their answer when contacted by the law enforcement agency

Why the f*ck must a player contact law enforcement to find out why someone stole their balance?

See my post in the other thread. Maybe IBAS will require an explanation. Maybe IBAS will "defer to the sportsbook's conclusions that the player did something wrong". I've seen some horrendous decisions from gaming commissions. If you are squabbling over small amounts, the player will spend more fighting for his money than he will win.
Screw goodwill payments. SBR asked Betfair to state to the player why it stole the player funds. There is no reason to refuse this. They chose not to. This is complete and utter bullshit.
One possible explanation: it is cheaper to screw over foreign players over small amounts. Ok, this is a retarded business strategy, but then so is stealing player balances and telling the players to go to hell when they ask why.

Somehow Justin, I very much doubt you've been told the full story here.
I reckon those guys know what they did wrong.

You're right. I haven't been told the whole story. And it's very likely these guys know what (if) they did wrong.
You can't steal a player's balance without telling them why. Even bad guys deserve due process.

Do you have the exact text of what Betfair sent them? Did they say they couldn't tell them because it would infringe on an ongoing enquiry, or what exactly did they say?

WTF are you talking about?
I've been doing that for years and reckon my money's safer there than in the bank!
Very prompt payments without fees every time from both Betfair and Moneybookers.

i also dont think you are right, can you share whats your experience with moneybookers deposits to betfair. and why there is a difference to other kind of deposits? does it mean that you state in other cases your funds are ok?
