Agreed, with all the casinos, scratchoffs, keno and lottery tickets available you would think it wouldn't be the end of the world to have some sports action that would be taxable.

what we should all want is just to go back to the pre-UIGEA world before October, 2006. When Neteller was available to US players it changes the game. Faster payouts, ease of moving money is hundred times easier than current climate.

                  It will come.
Isn't there ongoing discussion and lobbying about repealing the present anti-online gambling law?

Here is the problem. The Democrats and Barney Frank fumbled the ball. Back in 2006, when the Feds started to slam the door on off shore gaming, Frank and his merry band of Liberals were in the minority, but Frank promised to introduce legislation to legalize on line gaming in the U.S., using U.S. based sports books and casinos. When the Libs too over Congress later that year, nothing was done. Frank backed out on his word. Now the Democrats pay lip service to the idea, but little else. If this legislation is to be passed, it will be in an odd numbered year. The Democrats, who are in huge trouble politically, dare not throw legalized gaming into the picture in an election year. At best, we will have to wait until 2011 to see if anything will be done. Don't blame the bible thumpers. Blame the Democrats. They were the ones who were championing the cause, and then suddenly backed away from it.

if it was legal in the us, then a mafia king will start paying college basketball players to lose a game so his bets can win.

It actually works the exact opposite way than the retarded scenarios about mafia kings fixing games, because those same mafia kings are so afraid of laws that they would not bet offshore or any other outlet they could get their money down.

When things are legalized then they are inspected tighter, any irregular betting patterns are reported quicker and there is a tighter leash on these things, there will always be game-fixing, especially in lower tiered conferences, MAC, I am looking at you, but making sports betting legal would not lead to more game fixing.

There are many states in the USA where it is legal to gamble online. For instance, in Texas, you can gamble online in the privacy of your own home; you can not do it in a public place, but at home, it is legal.

Online poker has a chance of being legalized on the federal level sometime in the next 10-20 years. The popularity of it cannot be contained, in my opinion, and at some point the bozos in Washington will cave. Most likely once this generation of geezers in Congress lose power.

I don't think betting on sports will ever be legalized - in my lifetime anyway. However, I am confident the offshore books will always come up with new ways to circumvent the "laws", although cutting off the banks from processing any kind of funds will make it extremely difficult for US players, but not impossible.
