    sportbook.com member wins 577 k
I am willing to bet 500k that this poor bastard doesn't get 577 dollars.

The Duke Blue Devils weren't the only big winners last night. Anthony M. from New Jersey cashed in on the biggest jackpot in Sportsbook.com's 13+ year history.
Playing the Reel Sports 5-Reel Slots, Anthony won the $577,011.58 progressive jackpot at the click of the mouse. Yup, that's over half a million dollars to a loyal Sportsbook.com member who has been with the site since 2000.
"I noticed back in December that the jackpot was getting pretty high," Anthony explained. "I knew someone was going to get it so I've been playing a lot. I almost quit a couple times and then it hit - last night."
When asked what he was going to do with his newly acquired riches, Anthony stated, "I'm going to pay off some house debt for sure and I also plan on helping some family members that need some help. Also, my parent's 40th anniversary is coming up so they'll be getting a very nice and long vacation."
Congratulations to Anthony M. for getting his piece of the pie. Now it's your turn; go to the Sportsbook.com Casino and start playing today. The 5-Reel Slots progressive jackpot is already over $164,000.

Given that it's Sportbook advertising this on their own website, surely either (1) the player will get paid, or (2) the player doesn't exist? [Am I being way too naive here?]

I'd go with the 2nd choice. The M in "Anthony M" stands for Made-Up. This Tony is baloney.

While I also am suspicious, on the off-hand they got caught giving the prize to made-up players, bots, or a sweetheart deal, wouldn't the backlash be catastrophic?

We're talking about a company that blatantly stole from winning players in the past. I don't think SB.com worries about any "backlash". Apparently all publicity is good publicity in their view.

He will be paying the Feds for the rest of his life, now that this has become common knowledge. Do not think for a second that the Feds will not find out who he is. Has he been paid yet? I tend to take stroies like this with a grain of salt, but if that winner exists, I suggest going legit. Pay the taxes. The Feds will not bother you if they are going to get a 250K or more payday.

                                  1) I don't think SB.com will be sending Tony M a 1099 form--so there's no record.

                                  2) I would hope that anyone winning this kind of money would be smart enough to collect it at under $10,000 per payment and use several banks.

                                  3) We all know that Tony doesn't exist.

Please never give anyone "advice" about tax fraud. Though it is humorous.
