Does 42+ mean 42 and more, or over 42? (Wagering dispute)
You guys decide... I always thought that 42+ would mean 42 or more...

Please wait for a site operator to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Ericka'
Ericka: Hello. How may I assist you today?
Brian: One of my bets is graded wrong
Ericka: Can you please confirm your account number and password?
    Brian: *
    Brian: *
Ericka: what is the ticket number?
    Brian: 45526833-1
Brian: 2/14/10 8:20pm Props Basketball 3133 A team scores 42+ points in any quarter -145* vs No team scores 42+ points in any quarter
Brian: East scored 42 points in the 3rd quarter
    Ericka: Just a moment please
Ericka: they had to score more than 42 points for your wager to be winner
    Brian: um what
Ericka: A team scores 42+ points in any quarter -145
Brian: 42+ means 42 or more
    Ericka: 42+ = more than 42
    Brian: no it doesn't.
Ericka: sir, the wagering manager has given me this information and has stated that the grade is correct after he reviewed it
Brian: where does it say in your rules that thats what that means

You guys let me know.... Am I in the wrong here?

I would read 42+ as 42 or more... Seems like if they wanted it 42 to be a push they could have wrote the text a dozen different ways that would have conveyed the meaning better... What book btw?

Also does that mean that they grade no 42+ points in 3rd as a winning prop as well, cuz they could make both sides losers...also the book would help

        Its 5Dimes.

They've gone from grading it as a loss to grading it as "cancelled".... still feel screwed though.

I believe you definitely should win this prop bet though cuz 42+ means 42 or more.

Yes, good for 5 dimes. The original wording is a bit unclear. Glad they gave you the benefit of a doubt on it.

Glad they gave it to you, but definitely confusing wording on their part.

Eurofootball (a bookmaker in my country)
                      offers 4+ goals option
                      for soccer matches.
and if 4 goals-it is a winning bet.

5dimes offer so much props that they don't know how to grade them.

It's nice to hear a bookie react so fast. And yes, 42+ means 42 and more

Why don't they just go in halves and avoid any ambiguity?

A general tip, if you have a prop grading dispute, wait until the next morning to ask about it rather than ask late at night. Most books have a reduced staff late at night and you may have someone who's unfamiliar with these things and doesn't speak English very well trying to grade the bets. I saved myself a lot of aggravation when I stopped asking at midnight why they graded an obviously winning bet as a loss. What usually ended up happening is that the same person who accidentally graded it a loss was the one explaining why it was a loss and no amount of reasoning would change their mind. Then the next day, I'd complain again and someone competent was on staff and it got fixed immediately.

I agree with. Make it over 41.5 or 42.5 and the confusion is avoided. This assumes that the original grading was not an error and they really intended it to be over 42.5 (42 is a loss).

5Dimes has maybe the best wagering menu and always gives players the benefit of the doubt. But, like you said, sometimes it takes the main day boss to help break it down. The linesman likely meant to offer a bet he priced where 42 was intended to be a push but had to honor it as a win due to wording.

I am glad you got your money. It is quite simple. a + at the end of a number means "or more". A - means "or less". A "^" pointed to the right on the left side of a number means "greater than". A "^" pointed to the left on the left side of a number means "less than".

i had the same wager as you. big 3 by paul pierce. checked my balance this morning and would not have known there was any dispute if not for this thread. especially because the "opponent" listed is no team scores 42+ points in a quarter. cant get more clear cut.
