you are right. however, bank balances and cc companies have protections in place for their customers. they also gaurantee funds.
sportsbooks offer no such protections. if you lose your money, oh well, sucks for you, i guess you should have a better firewall on you computer, right?
also, i keep hearing that this data that they request is for the players' protection when in fact, this info is the stuff that perpetuates the problem.
it needs to be said again, this POST UP SERVICE, any info that you would not feel comfortable giving out for any cash purchase, should not be given out.
identity theft is up OVER 25% in the u.s. over the last year. think twice when you get your new cell phone contract and they ask for your ss#. don't do it, and yes, there are ways around it.
google panama +offshore banking.
it's not just about security, it is also a major privacy issue. one should have the right to lay a few bucks on games, and keep it between just them and their bookie.Comment -

#40Having to provide ID is protecting some of the players accounts on these forums. Every now and then someone posts their account info online. Just yesterday I notified a poster who put his account number and password in a post. By logging in, you then have his full name and address/phone number, account transactions, etc. The mods here at SBR do a good job in catching posters mistakes, but across forumland thats not always the case. I don't have a problem with "A" rated books having my id.
I totally agree with you on phone contracts. Overseas, they not only wanted your SSN, but also the front and back of your government id and passport. They finally put a stop to it.
