    Refusing to pay an agent
Asking for a friend (and seriously, a friend, not me)...

This guy is down $20K or so to a local agent, betting via the agent's site. He claims he just doesn't have it and is maxed out on loans, etc. The agent now threatening to call his wife, family members, employer, etc.

I'm curious what others here think would happen if he just straight up tells the agent he's not paying and that if the guy calls anyone he knows he'll bring in the cops (or whatever).

Ethics of it aside, as he definitely sucks for not paying his bets, what do people here think the agent would do?

If he does not intend to pay this guy a cent he will have to be looking over his shoulder. I doubt he will tell his work he needs him to make money to pay him. But i can see him going and saying stuff to family. Threatening to go to the police to a guy you owe $20000 is not too smart.

30 years ago would have been a whole different story. Back then you better make some arrangements. Today's it's different. Anyone can set up a PPH account. You would really need some background on the agent to figure out the consequences.

He would be much smarter to make a plan to pay off his debt. Either by payments or through an offer to pay him out for a % of the balance.

And also to come clean with whoever in his family it would hurt him/them if they found out from an angry bookie.

But I'd guess the person isn't that brave, honorable or honest... or smart.. if he already has the bookie at a point of threatening that stuff. So doubt they would listen to you suggesting the option that feels tough to him today.

That said, if a bookie is so greedy to give someone 20k credit that can't handle it, I don't feel at all sorry for them either. Probably a parasitic type operator who should own part of the responsibility themselves.

I think he needs to just make an arrangement maybe $500 every couple weeks something is better then nothing . I have always paid when i owe and the one i lost control i have been slowly paying off. I have also been screwed by books and once by a bookie who screwed me out of $4500 like 20+ years ago or so. So yea hard to feel sorry for bookies but maybe is a decent guy who pays when you win.

Payment plan but make it where u pay something to bookie @ Least every 2 weeks. Then after doing that for 3 months he may get tired of meeting u. Ask bookie if u came up w/$7 or $8000 in Lump some would that settle it. Tell him it's ur inLaws, parents, boss, etc...& that's all they can give & only will if it wipes out the debt...worth a shot, if he says no, go bac to the payments

If I stole food off your kids table, what would you do.

send the guy a nickel every two weeks and his problem would be solved.

This is it exactly. Before I would be shitting bricks, but now anyone can use a PPH shop and play the tough guy. Granted, nobody likes getting free rolled to the tune of $20k
