I don't understand why California couldn't do something like this instead of people voting on it and the ballot. They've passed other bills without the public voting

Texas has the same issue as California and any bill will have to be voted on by the people to change the state constitution to actually see it instituted there too.

I actually think it will happen here in Texas. A very strong coalition led by former Governor Rick Perry. Like him or not, it will help to solicit support from the far right which has been the hurdle to passing this type of legislation. I saw a recent University of Houston poll which indicated that the majority of the public is supportive of legalized sports betting. The smartest thing they did was to separate legalized mobile betting from the legalization of local casinos. This in and of itself increases the odds tremendously as the far right will strongly oppose the legalization of land-based casinos and betting.

it's those dallas area holy rollers and david koresh types, coupled with those bought out by the louisiana gaming contingent, that are the problem........

The Sands group will not let a lone mobile sportsbooks Book or retail book Bill pass without a casino tied to it . As they have been lobbying for casinos to be legal for years.

Republicans have blocked it in Alabama since the 80's, they even stopped the little old church ladies from there bingo!! Now thats cold hearted

Too much Republican support. They will absolutely stop land based casinos and retail books for sure. They will never get past Dan Patrick (Lt. Gov) in regards to land based operations. The online lobby is too strong with Rick Perry and the major sports owners supporting the mobile sports betting bill. Way too much firepower at this point. They know that it's being funneled offshore otherwise and have no choice due to the tax revenue.
