How much would you have to win for a top rated recreational book to cut you off?

How much to be collared by a professional book?

It doesn't depend only on the amount you win but especially on the way how you bet. For example it is suspicious if you only play bets in case the odds are better than in the other bookmakers at the same time or also if you always bet on odds before they decrease.

Eric, Kiwi's answer is spot on. In my experience, some top books (Pinnacle actually is the only one that comes to mind) will never cut you off unless you try to do something that circumnavigates their rules such as multiple accounts. Greek likewise will not limit you unless you are betting steam, at which point you get the obligatory warning phonecall, while Jamaica won't close your account, but will put you on delay (10 seconds to begin; then up to 25). The Cris family of books will not lower your limits unless you are constantly beating their line moves.

5Dimes on the other hand will definitely close your account if you turn a profit there, and you probably know you are getting close to that point when you find yourself on delay. Then there are other books (Wagerweb; Betonline; WillHill; StanJames to name a few) where it's pretty much pointless to open an account as you'll be cut off almost immediately if you're in the green. Pretty much all the other recreational books will limit you at some point, while some such as SportsInteraction more or less make it known that if you turn a profit of $10,000, it's time to pack your bags.

So all the books are different, and I've pegged just a few but bear in mind that these are my experiences only of course, over the last decade. From what I read here, it would seem many others have a similar pattern but you will always find a different story somewhere needless to say.

      Hope this helps.

They will also limit you on props and teasers.

Good add-on John. Yes, I had my prop limits cut down quite a few years ago.

thanks, definitely helps, what is the purpose of a delay? could the line change? i guess i would just wager over the phone at that point...

If I start with an initial deposit in the $300-500 range at 5dimes, how much profit would I have to make, and how quickly, for them to limit me? If I build it up slowly, over several months, will that help me escape detection as opposed to winning a lot right away? I plan to bet $5-50 per bet, depending on several factors, but not betting steam (at least not intentionally) or doing anything "suspicious."

Bounced Check, based on your description I imagine you'd have no problems at all and could be at 5Dimes as long as you wished.

stumpage , do you think 5dimes will let you play longer than Sportsinteractions 10000, or is that about the maximum they will let you win

Personally, 5Dimes let me play much longer. I made a massive profit there and was put on the delay system. Though I was never given any official confirmation as to why I was shown the door, I'm quite sure it was the fact that I hit them for a double-whammy, making a very tidy profit on both the SuperBowl and Academy Awards of all things within a short time frame several years ago. This occurred after I was already on delay. If it weren't for that, perhaps I'd still be there but alas.

I would hesitate to even compare SIA and 5Dimes though to be honest. SIA are amateurs and have a deservedly poor rating here and one extended good streak might very well end one's time there. On the other hand, I have friends who have been playing successfully at 5Dimes for many years. They might be on delay, but have not been banished and might never be.

*Speculator, I just looked back over my old Neteller records and it turns out that over my 2 month time at 5Dimes, I made close to $30,000. I always thought it was more, but for what its worth that was it. So maybe that is the threshold, though I also hit very many soft lines on various prop bets just before they gave me the ol' adios, which I'm quite sure hastened my departure.
