    Fabio Coentrão to Madrid!
The 23 year old Portuguese player joins the Spanish club after consolidating himself as one of the best left backs in the world
Carlos Cristobal / Translation by Michael J. O'Donnell

Fabio Coentrao is Real Madrid's fifth signing for the 2011/12 campaign. His excellent run at Benfica, with whom he won the league and Cup of Portugal titles, and his regularity as a starter for the Portuguese national team have clinched the player a deal with the Spanish club. The left back is solid in attack, has excellent dribbling skills, has a powerful shot and is extremely varsatile, whic allows him to play in any winger position.

Coentrao was born on 11 March 1988 in Vila do Conde. The first important team he played for was Rio Ave, with whom he made his First Division debut when he was just 16. His excellent performances caught Benfica's attention, who decided to sign him in 2007 and loaned him out to Nacional, notching 16 appearances and 4 goals.

Coentrao returned to Rio Ave after a brief spell with Spanish side Zaragoza. His good run in the 2008/09 campaign secured his return to Benfica, with whom he truly blossomed and won his first titles, such as the 2009/10 edition of the league and the 2010/11 Cup of Portugal.

Coentrao first played for his country on the youth national teams, making his first team debut in 2009 against Bosnia-Herzegovina. He's since become a regular starter with Portugal, making a total 15 appearances for his country, four of which were in the 2010 World Cup.

They are signing the guy for 30M.

But Garay is going to Benfica so Madrid will give 20M + Garay.

Also talking Drenthe may go to Benfica also in this operation but Madrid is just looking to send that piece of crap somewhere else

I heard the final deal would be somewhere around 15M + Garay + Drenthe.

Garay is a great signing for Benfica and, if Jesus can get him in line, I'm sure Drenthe will be a good signing for them too.

I like Coentrão, but I can't help thinking Benfica got the better part of the deal here. On the other hand, Real aren't exactly known as light spenders so I'm sure they don't mind

Hm I still don't know about Drenthe they problem he has is his head, he doesn't know how to behave, not in Madrid, not in Hercules. Let's see if he can change that in Benfica if he goes at the end.

About Garay I think is a good deal I even think Garay could have gone to another club for more money but he hasn't played this season so that's why they just getting 10-12M.

About spending, this year we havent spend that much.

Of course after the year when CR, Kaka and Benzema this year is very light for us.

10m Sahin, 30M Coentrao the most expensive this year, 10M Varane, 5M Callejon, and Altintop free.

The transfermarket has barely opened, I'm sure Mourinho will be going after another striker as well and I doubt it'll be a cheap one. The rumours about Kun and Neymar are probably there for a reason.

Yep I think Madrid will buy one of those. And maybe another midfielder cause Lass want to go.

Of those 2 I really would like to see Kun in Madrid. Neymar so far I think is not done! And 45M for a guy that is a question mark is not good.

I don't want the next Robinho in my team, a guy that was expected to be the next Pele and at the end ended in nothing.

Kun will not go to Madrid because they are 45M not otherwise 75M as Atletico put a clause if it was going to Madrid. Besides that would go to war against Atletico which is not interested. Madrid has only the option Neymar.

Madrid can pay the 75 if the want to bring Kun.

2nd Atletico is sh*t they talk sh*t about Madrid but they don't remember some players from Real that have gone there, for example Reyes.

About Kun they just want money and don't want to get less than 45. They always do that kind of sh*t to Madrid.
I think that Atletico may change their mind no other team will give them 45, Juve will give 40 maximum, maybe just City may give them 45.

Also Kun for sure wants to stay in Madrid, he donesn't wanna go to Juve cause this year they're not even on CL.
City is not a big team.

Kun wants Madrid. The problem is that all this sh*t is making Madrid to start thinking and at the end Kun may go to a team he doesn't want.

But I really don't wanna se Neymar in Madrid and for 45M?? The guy hasn't show nothing to be worth 45.

Paying 45 for a player that may end in nothing like Robinho? Madrid was even lucky that City payed them a sh*tload of money for Robinho.

So I really hope Madrid gets Kun and not Neymar.

Coentrao is great, a real work horse who never dogs it. Benfica will miss his ethic.

Speaking as a Pork Chop, this transfer is great, hell, ship more national team players to Madrid, maybe they'll finally learn how to play together come Euro/World Cup

I hate when people talk of Madrid that way!

Madrid is not the only team spending that money!
