Guardiola may succeed Ferguson - report

    27 October 2010

Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola has emerged as the favorite to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson when the Scot steps down at Manchester United.

(GSM) - Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola has emerged as the favorite to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson when the Scot steps down at Manchester United.
The Spanish media suggested Ferguson recommended Guardiola for the United board because of his style of play.
Guardiola, 39, still has not extended his contact which is due to expire next summer and he is believed to have a negative relationship with the Catalan club's president Sandro Rossell.
Guardiola's agent Jose Maria Orobigt has confirmed that his client has received an offer from a top European club, which is believed to be United.
Other candidates for the job include Real Madrid manager José Mourinho, former Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill and Everton manager David Moyes.

He's a great young coach, but I find it hard he would leave his childhood club because of rumours about some "negative relationship". He's such a perfect fit for Barca that it would be wise to replace the President instead.

Mourinho will take it. One way or another he will be United manager in the future.

I can't see why Guardiola would leave Barcelona to be honest. Barcelona are always going to have money to spend, even though their figures might not look great. Whereas Man Utds debts are ready to cripple them and when the situation totally explodes they will almost certainly end up relegated from PL.

Huge turnover?? They are North of £700m in DEBT, their crowds are falling and their team isn't close to being a good as it once was. They pay about £20m per year just to SERVICE their debt and the Yank owners have got all the loans secured against the club rather than themselves. When the banks want their money and the taxman stops playing ball, as he is, this shit is all going to come crumbling down.

The premier league is ready to implode BIG time with the big sides (barring Chelsea and Man City) and Manchester United will be one of the worst affected teams. IMO of course.

Anyone with good English football knowledge and a marginal grasp on the financial side of things can see that the bubble is ready to burst, and it aint going to be pretty for the PL clubs currently requiring loans just to survive.

well if the bubble of Man Utd and the premier leauge is going to burst how have they made Ronney the highest paid player in the premiership and gtd 60m for transfers.....this season Utd have still bought players....but they bought young....chicarito,bepe and smallings....they are building for the future and with maybe 2 world class signings they will be right back in the mix....remember this season Utd have never ever been behind in the premiership....if it wasnt for a few freak goals and stupid defensive errors they wud be cruising on top....imo of course

He was my favorite midfielder. I think he is the most talented young trainer right now.But country is not so convenient like UK. British people are famous about patience.
Potugal, Spain, Italy,Turkey,Greece...mediterranean people are impaitent and their emotions could change suddenly. I know lots of coach they resigned or fired after back to back defeats.

No need for the "imo of course", we all have opinions and I respect everyones

Looking at the bigger picture i'm not buying into whats been said about the part of your quote i've highlighted - the cynical bastard in me says its not uncommon for the moneymen to guarantee some transfer funds to appease the fans AND the best player on the team, for me none of that will happen and IMO they will still sell Rooney, but his new long term contract has merely served the purpose of increasing his transfer value to about £50m, as opposed to the £5m he could have walked away for at the end of this season.

I would not trust those Yank owners as far as I could throw them, most Man Utd fans will feel the same way.

Ask fans of Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday, West Ham and Manchester City how easy it is to fall from grace and get relegated from the top flight. Manchester United are in for a short sharp shock when the game implodes financially, its amazing how quickly things change.

Knucks is your typical United fan. And I love the fact that there are tons like him, because it will mean that the majority of their fan-base has **** all knowledge about their financial position, and won't give a shit unlike us. Which might eventually lead to them being busted. AND BY GOD, I CAN'T ******* WAIT!

Are they "real" season ticket holders? Or the kind of current holders who couldnt pick Old Trafford out on a map prior to 15 years ago when they started being succesful?

Think he got it from his Grandad, who supported United through the years. The old arse is a right git at times but he's very knowledgeable and has massive respect for 'Pool, so I have time for him.

Guardiola is a great character and a very good manager and I think he will be a good choice for replacing Ferguson, even though he could probably have some problems adapting at first to British football, as he never played there in his career. He is smart, a hard worker and knows how to make his players like him though, so he would overcome everything thrown his way much faster than many others would.

Now THAT I agree with, still not convinced he would leave Barce though, especially whilst they are still one of the best teams on the planet.
