I haven't been a prolific poster on SBR this year but i've moved to Cape Town for work, i'm settled, and ready to bet on football this year.
I've been surprised i haven't even bet little amounts of football, but probably gladly so because i'd have placed a wager on Boro to win the Championship
Onto tonight's one and only bet, i am making it my bet of the year because truth be told, i have waited for this bet for a week.
The only thing that would have put me off was the odds but even they are tasty.
The bet: Nottingham Forest/Middlesbrough - Under 2.5 Goals @ -125 (4/5) Diamond Sportsbook - 6 Units
Anyone who remembers my bet of the year last year was 4 units on Boro/Newcastle which i came out entirely break even on since it was a high scoring draw.
I don't make 1000 unit bets or anything daft like that, but this is a lot of money to me.
To start with my team, Boro have been awful this year, and to see them where they are is a shock. They haven't been able to defend at all, something which i thought Strachan would be good at organising. With him now gone, i expect a little focus to enter the team, and a huge wake up call if nothing else.
I don't rate our defenders, and a manager change will not help anything on that front for this game but what is key is that games between these two clubs are generally low scoring in recent memory.
Last year saw a 1-0 home win, and the year before saw a 1-1 draw in the Carling Cup. Boro have gone over the 2.5 mark in their last 7 straight games but Forest are the opposite of Boro, with just 3 overs and 8 unders.
Just one of their first 5 home games have gone over and whilst the majority have been 1-1, i think Boro will struggle more offensively.
Forest are a good footballing side, and will be able to cope with our strikeforce, who have scored just 12 all season. We have conceded 20 but with Forest a little lacklustre in front of goal with just 12 themselves, this could actually be quite a drab and nervous game.
We have scored just 2 goals away, in 5 matches and struggle to create at all. Forest have 7 home goals with just 5 conceded and the value i believe is with the under.
If this game was played 10 times i think at least 6 would go under, making this a +ev bet.
Good luck to anyone who plays this game, i see it ending 2-0 Forest and continuing Boro's slide towards League 1
