    I suck at this
Is there any sport where the favorite wins less often than in Soccer? I've lost a ton of money in the past month wagering on soccer, compiling a 7-19 record and that's been on on favorites almost exclusively. Am I just snake bitten right now? Because when I make a bet, the favorite NEVER WINS!

So what's the bail-out play for tonight? Vasco de Gama?

If it makes you feel any better I've been betting on dogs and getting my face kicked in. But personally I hate betting on chalk. I love betting on value that has a chance to win, that way you could have a losing record and be ahead. But I don't know if I'd be one to take adive from, I'm in the gutter right now.

Vasco is a risky pick. It's against the unwritten rules! Follow these few rules:

            1) Pass on games which schedule are out of sync with the rest of the league (like you had only 1 game each in the Bundesliga [Germany] and Eredivisie [Netherlands] and the home favorites both failed to win).
            2) Avoid the best 2 home favorites and best 2 road favorites in any league.
            3) Also note that there's no such a thing as "risk-free" gambling. Avoid picks that look "risk-free" or "too easy"!

Try to stick to it! It really helps. You saw how Arsenal lost to West Brom last weekend and how Man Utd failed to win at Bolton? Or how Hannover couldn't get a goal against St. Pauli? Or how Vitesse (-260) couldn't beat Willem II? Or how Barcelona (-1200) lost at home to a newly promoted Hercules? Or how Real Madrid (-240) were held to a draw at Levante? The list is endless. Those are the kind of results that are sustaining the books.

Books design odds for you to lose in the long run, gain the experience and find the edge for specific games otherwise save your money.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I only recently took up soccer betting becasue of a vast expanse of free time I have on my hands right now. I make plenty of money in football so the losses are covered. But I've always approached gambling as a test of my ability to solve the most complicated riddles, not as a way to make money. That I've also made money is a bonus, of course, but my frustration lies more in my seeming inability to get the hang of this sport. But thanks for the camaraderie. It's nice to be reminded I'm not alone! (btw, I laid off Vasco de Gama...I always kick myself for the plays I don't make that win but seldom delight in the plays I don't make that lose so I'll try to remember this for a while!)

Then why not stick to that? You wouldn't need Vasco as a bail out if you had it covered right? I don't bet American football but surely you must have learned that betting the favorite all the time doesn't mean profit, that's true for every sport.

"Soccer" has changed a lot in the last years, individual players that were able to win a game by themselves have slowly became extinct and team play is most important nowadays. Smaller teams are more often able to surprise bigger ones through organization and determination and this was very clear at the last World Cup. They don't travel anymore to the big arenas as if walking the Green Mile. We need to not jump on every odd offered by the bookies and always search for value. Soccer is still a predictable sport in my opinion.
