#38Just curious how offsides is a subjective call. Don't replay fouls, just replay goals like baseball does with home runs. At least that's a start. Offsides is as easy to review as the ball crossing the line. Bad calls go both ways in every game. However, ESPN makes sure that we know when the US gets a shitty call. Of course there are other countries getting terrible calls but no media coverage. But quit ripping us because we want the game called fair. Oh and the Canadians are not to be trusted with their beady eyes and floppy jaws...Comment -

#40name one other country that had two goals disallowed this WC. at least Coulibaly will never ref a WC game again....ever.
you guys can drop the hate. getting all pissed off cause America has shown steady improvement on the pitch. football has been your game for centuries. it was the one sport you could always count on beating the U.S. but now every WC I have to watch the world hate on the U.S. i don't know what America winning their Group with 7 points, free and clear of England, would have done to the fragile mental state of hooligans world-wide. so the world will continue to carry and promote this notion of America being inferior when it comes to football because of the lack of history and tradition. and they could very well lose to Ghana, which i wouldn't mind as long as FIFA lives up to their "fair play" bullshit slogan.
in the meantime, you guys will keep making excuses for the Americans' success.Comment -

In Algeria - USA Algeria should get penalty but ... ???
If you are bitching because of that 3rd goal in match against Slovenia, referee didn't call offside but foul by one of USA players right after free kick.
But yes, you are right, the whole world is wrong, we already know how USA are working.Comment -

#42the flopping stuff is what makes this sport look like a bunch of pussies playing it. falling down holding your face when you get hit in the shoulder makes this sport look bad. to americans it make it look like the players are really big pussies or bad sports.
i guess it is in the american culture to not appear to be weak.Comment -

#43And why are you still watching it? Go out to your wrestling game, which is fixed and you still enjoy it, it doesn't matter that all hits are fixed... you must be stupid to watch something like that.
Baseball is american sport and you see pitchers falling on their knees because ball just hit them... wtf? Oh I forget, ball at 95mph hurts, getting elbow in your face doesn't... If that doesn't hurt, then give me your address I will more than happy visit you and make some fouls over you. And then we will talk if that is for pussies. And NFL guys can be though, under 30kg of safety equipment duh If NFL would be sport for non-pussies then they would play it without all that equipment, but they don't so NFL is another sport for pussies I guess?Comment -

#44NFL does not replay holding penalties, pass interference, ect....MLB doesn't replay shit, only home runs. Even in NBA you can't review all the subjective fouls like charging/blocking calls. Doesn't matter how good technology is, you can't review every single thing...especially when your dealing with subjective calls.
NFL reviews touchdowns which is what wins you games, NBA reviews baskets which is what wins you games, MLB reviews homeruns which is what wins you games, NHL reviews goals which is what wins you games. Soccer doesnt review offsides, which constantly causes teams to lose or draw.
Soccer should run it like NHL, let play go while refs somewhere else review.Last edited by brooks85; 06-24-10, 09:35 AM.Comment -

Say what you will about the Americans and their fans but you NEVER see the USA players taking dives. They certainly play very physically, but they aren't hitting the ground without real contact.Comment -

just to clarify, mainly because I would like to know also, he said name other countries that had 2 goals disallowed.
no one cares about bad calls with red cards, people get away with fouls like that in every sport. We are talking about points on the board, huge difference.Comment -

again, huge difference between a foul and a clear 1-0 lead
thats why you said (can be) and (more often than winning) because it is not that same as points on the board and you know it.Comment -

#50Your logic is about as good as your English, so it makes sense you don't really know what you are talking about. Yes, an elbow to the face hurts, just like being tackled at full speed does. And yes getting hit with a baseball *really* hurts. But his point was Americans don't respect the FLOPPING that goes on. That's when there is little to no contact but the player acts like they were shot (usually holding their face and peeking at the ref) to get a foul/card. Turn on the Italian game and you'll see another example with 5 minutes.

#51the only other sport that really has flopping is basketball and that is normally the non american players that do it or the slimey american players. ron artest and the other players that grow up in the rough neighborhoods will not flop because it is a sign of being a pussy and weak. the lakers where going to pay players for every charge they took in the playoffs but artest said f-that he is not falling for anybody. its the way the america culture is.
i guess in baseball someone could fake being hit by a pitch, but that really never happens
and about wearing gear in football, besides the fact is the clearly the most violent of the main sports, petr cech wears his little hat.Last edited by antifoil; 06-24-10, 09:54 AM.Comment -

#52for sucking. for being tragically bad in stealing goals off the US in consecutive games on shit calls. thank you for the phantom call taking away the game winning goal, and 2 points, in the Slovenia tilt. thank you for a horrible offsides call that wasn't, that stole a goal off the US midway through the 1st H today.
thank you for all of that or the iconic moment of Donovan scoring would not have happened. a goal that will never be forgotten by American fans.
and you still owe us for the Germany hand ball not called in WC 2002 and the phantom Red Card foul in WC 2006 vs Ghana. am i missing one from a WC game vs Turkey?Yes, its all a conspiracy by FIFA! They don't want the US to do well!

NFL and NHL both have human referees and you can't review or challenge penalties in either one, only catches, TDs etc - just like you could go reviews for offsides and goal-line situations but not for fouls. So they are still pretty humanly officiated and you don't see flopping because the players have integrity. Same reason you don't see the USA (and some other squads) flopping and you always see flopping from the Italians, Portguese, and at least historically, Argentinians. It's purely a question of integrity, you can't blame the officiating.
Oezil dove in the first Germany game and got a card. Then later in the game he could have gone down in the box but tried to stay on his feet so he didn't get a second yellow. If he didn't have that card he would have gone down and forced the ref to make an unfair penalty decision. That's how you fix the problem, along with retroactive suspensions. Of course, then Italy would have to bring more than 23 players in 2014.Comment -

#56What I find funny is how most Americans always trash Soccer and don't care about it, but when its the World Cup and a few bad calls made against the US makes the news, all of America is in an uproar screaming bloody murder.Yes, its all a conspiracy by FIFA! They don't want the US to do well!
No matter who you root for, if you can't see that the USA probably had the two biggest officiating errors (certainly the worst one v Slovenia, the Algeria offside, well that happens, offside decisions are part of the game), then you are biased. I have watched a LOT of football and the disallowed goal by Edu was one of the worst decisions I have ever seen, whether it be World Cup, Champions League, Prem, La Liga, or whatever.
Can you blame the average USA fan though? Most people here don't know squat about football but there are more and more who do every year. And for the casual fans? Look at the last 6 years. USA/Germany 2002, USA/Italy 2006, USA/Ghana 2006, and this year? Find me another team that has endured so much officiating controversy over the last 3 World Cups. Any other team and fans would be aggravated as well - for god's sake, what if that was England? It would be on the tabloid covers until the next Euro tourney.Comment -

#57... sticky
Americans are furious for the 2 bad calls by the referees on this worldcup.. trust me theres nothing against u. How do u think THE IRISH feels bout the infamous HAND of Henry on overtime. now for that i would be pissed off looking at what France did on this WC.. Most of you only see soccer every 4 years for the world cup and for you to see this kind of calls, its unimaginble and outrageous but for most that have been watching soccer most of their lives, we are use to this bullshit calls and yes they have cost me alot not only $$ wise. This is just the way it is.. call it curruption, call it stupid referees, call it conspiracy.. its how it is.. This is something that happens often on world cups for using international referees from countries that dont even have their own leagues and they dont have the proper preparation or experience for a WC match. Hopefully, next round, all the bad referees are out and the ones that did a good job will repeat.. BS calls will end, most of them imoLast edited by JogoBonito; 06-24-10, 10:09 AM.Comment -

#59I am an American/Brit who lives in the USA and watches football all year long. People here don't think it's a conspiracy, they just think it's bullshit.

Very well said. This is the first year that I have actually watched soccer games from start to finish. I am amazed at the amount of flopping and the number of bad game changing calls that have been made and not just against the US. There has to be a better way IMO.

Honest question-- If this is part of the game (speaking specifically about the nulled U.S. goals), then I assume it happens all the time... so is this why fans start the occasional riot? I always thought it was just because their team lost.Comment -
