Once again the strategy is to take the better team. In the knock out rounds the cream rises to the top and we rarely see upsets. I'm not buying what this Croatian team is selling. They made it out in second in the second most easiest group. They were shut out in 2 of their group stage games. They will have more of the possession in this game and Japan will play the quick counter attack game that sunk the Germany & Spain. The Croats are no doubt technically gifted especially in midfield but I think this match might be going the distance into extra time and possibly penalty kicks. The last time these sides met was at the 2006 world cup where the final score was 0-0. I expect the same this time around.

Argentina are yet to hit top gear in the world cup and I think they are lucky to be facing the Dutch in the quarters. The Netherlands have not really played any big sides. Qatar, Senegal, USA & Ecuador are not exactly top quality. However I do like streaks and the Dutch are now on a 19 game unbeaten streak, Argentina had their long streak broken by the Saudis I think these sides will cancel each other out in full time as they did in their 2 last world cup meetings both of which ended 0-0 in 2006 & 2014. I think eventually in extra time Messi drags Argentina into the final 4. I also like the card angle in what should be a nervy game with Spanish referee Mateu Lahoz averaging 4.64 cards per game there is a tad of value on the over 3.5.

There is not too much to separate these sides when it comes to quality. Even the last 3 head to head results ended with each team winning one and one ending level. Both teams are chasing history England for their second ever win & France for a title defense both of which have not been done since the 60's. I'm expecting a nervy game but there is too much quality on each team not to see goals. I'm thinking final result 1-1 with the game going to extra time. This should be a great game for in play betting depending on the flow and circumstance.

Croatia have been a tough nut to crack as they say. Their game plan seems to be the same take the game to spot kicks where they have been unbelievably lucky not just in this world cup but in 2018. Argentina are rightfully the favourites but I'm not looking to back them at these prices.
