Soccer: Why aren't Cups as popular with the fans?
I'd think the idea of a tournament would be more thrilling and better than strict league play (where the outcome is often decided weeks before the end, and also the same few teams keep winning). Also, the idea of many levels of a country's leagues playing on the same turf seems so fun.

Why do fans just care about the main league. It's still fun, but more boring, at least for me.

Personally I love the FA Cup, although I don't see the point in the League Cup because it is a very similar type of competition and I don't see the point of having 2 similar domestic cups. So I can understand why teams and fans don't take the League Cup of 2nd cup competition seriously. However, I am always disappointed if any team disrespects the FA Cup as I love the FA Cup, just my own opinion on the matter.

England i think has way too many cup competitions, but it's understandable as it has the most league levels. still though one or two cups should be sufficient. in reality, i'd really enjoy just ONE per country, with every team from the country entered in. would make it a bit more fun i think and easier to follow.

why do they dislike it so much? they would probably hate to play in america where seasons are decided tournament style.

Cups played on midweek, which has less recreational mood

cups are important but apparentliy not in every country,
league standings are still the most important thing in a season , because they determine the national champion, the teams who qualify for an international cup and teams who get relegated

In terms of the major European countries, the money available from TV rights to the domestic leagues and Champions League is many times that for the domestic cups. As a result the top sides rest their best players in the domestic cups which in turn reduces the fans´ interest.

they are pretty big deal in S. America the players seem to value them more especially copa Lib and Brazil cups cause up until to too long ago 1971 there wasn't compeonato Brasileiro they just had state cups and for this they tend to have more meaning to the players etc..

Cups, especially in England, aint popular for one reason - £££££££££££££££££

The biggest clubs in the country don't want to play in them because there simply isn't enough financial reward for doing so. Teams get paid more for finishing 15th in the league than they would for winning the cup. This makes teams in the top division field reserve sides to save the players from getting injured/tired....If the teams don't care about the cups then the fans sure as hell ain't gonna.
