So many fixed matches now in Europe. I watched the Liverpool game. They started out well, with crisp passing and a quick lead. But in the second half they could barely string together three passes. Chelsea had little or nothing to do with that. At this level I've never seen a home team come out so flat for the second half. It was like they no longer cared. Hard to prove anything, but very fishy, especially from a team that always fights hard. One goal headed in from a corner kick, ok, but two, where the very same player isn't even marked right in front of the goal...? From a corner kick? In English soccer?!

CL means stay away for me now. It's become a joke. Who needs to see another Liverpool-Chelsea anyway? This was a great competition when it still was the European Cup 1, with real champions, one from each country. European soccer needed a salary cap ten years ago. It's completely out of control now, and I could easily see the same teams that compete each year, from the same countries that buy up every talented player in the world, making deals to divide the prizes amongst themselves. F*ck the UEFA.

they have voluntarily decided to exit the CL.

Not a fix - just a very good Chelsea perfomance that was in many ways was much like what Liverpool usually play like. They got beaten at their own game more like. Liverpool were stifled completely in all departments after the Torres goal - attack, midfield and defence. Not a single Liverpool player was given time to breathe. That is exactly how Benitez sets up his team and it just happened that Hiddink managed to outdo Benitez at his own game. While it might appear that the other team is playing badly or not trying - the tactic Chelsea used on Wednesday results in the opponent unable to play their natural game and as a result end up looking clueless on the pitch.

I never expected Liverpool to be virtually out of this tie by the end of the 1st leg but I guess shit liek this happens every now and then.

Also, it's highly unlikely that a game of such magnitude and importance with a global audience has even a slight chance of being fixed.
The first qualifying round of the UEFA Cup between a team from the Faroes and Kazakhstan could be but not a Champions League QF between two English heavyweights.

Though I agree with you Dark Horse on the last point. The CL doesn't have the magic of the old European Cup. However, it must be pointed out that if the European Cup didn't take the shape of the CHampions League - we might have had a breakaway super league a few years ago as threatened and that would have just been disastrous for the domestic game in Europe.
