Malwarebytes + CC cleaner will get rid of 80% of viruses. The other 5% that can be removed quickly are start up viruses. Anybody with 0 computer sense can rid these viruses in 10 minutes. For anything else reinstall windows and your computer will be like the day you bought it. This would take someone who knows nothing about it about an hour. Id never pay a dollar for antivirus prevention programs( norton) or any repair service. Its just stupid.

FileHippo is a one stop shop for a bunch of programs that people use everyday, but what's good about them is they also offer free virus cleaning utilities that are good.

Malwarebytes is one of if not the best.

I run both SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes on my sons computer, and some times SuperAntiSpyware catches stuff that Malwarebytes doesn't. So I think it is good.

The boy goes to a lot of those Flash game sites. They carry a lot of tracking cookies and garbage on them.

"Apparently, this is a scam that’s been going around for a couple of years now, and can be especially dangerous for unsuspecting, less computer-savvy target victims. While many of the scam reports I’ve come across seem to have targeted England and Australia, it would appear that the scammers are now targeting more Americans as well. Today, we received one such call. The scam goes as follows:You get a call from some Indian guy with a generic name such as “Adam Smith” who explains to you in horribly broken English that he’s a registered Microsoft technician and has received a call alerting him that your IP address is the source for serious attacks on their servers due to multiple computer virus infections on your end. If you ask for any information on the source or target IP addresses involved, the person will attempt to deflect the question, and inform you that he/she is unauthorized to provide you that information!They will proceed to try convincing you that your computer is full of viruses (based on some standard status and error messages automatically generated by your computer), and they try to get you to grant them complete access to your entire computer (passwords, ************, everything) via the free “Ammyy Admin” remote desktop control software. AVG free Anti-virus, Zone Alarm Free Firewall, Get both via Comodo Free Anti-virus / Firewall, Avira Free Anti-virus, Avast Free Anti-virus...

All really good AV softwares that'll protect your system realtime and you can have your definitions updated daily and scans run daily if you'd like. And, they're free. No monthly subscription or anything. These will run automatically in the background - pretty much set em and forget em.

Also, may want to have a malwarebytes downloaded and up to date... again, its free. Just search for the name I just gave you. Run it monthly... it'll just keep malware off your crap.

One last thing to look at would be a CCleaner or the like. It just scans for lost pointers, lost registry links, etc. that can be cleaned up. Run it quarterly or every so often and let keep your pc clean. Takes 5 minutes or less to run, and fix the issues.

These last two are "on demand" things you'd just run whenever you wanted to. But, will keep your system running smooth.
