One of the most interesting men in the world has died.
If you don't know who John Fairfax is, here is tidbit from his NY Times obituary:

At 9, he settled a dispute with a pistol. At 13, he lit out for the Amazon jungle.

At 20, he attempted suicide-by-jaguar. Afterward he was apprenticed to a pirate. To please his mother, who did not take kindly to his being a pirate, he briefly managed a mink farm, one of the few truly dull entries on his otherwise crackling résumé, which lately included a career as a professional gambler.

I enjoyed the story until the final line where the author said "Baccarat is equal parts skill and chance". How can someone think there is skill involved in Baccarat, unless it is a different game then the one in casinos, the one Fairfax was playing.

it's amazing it took them 12 days to put up on obituary. This guy lived a life most people are scared to even think about.

Probably took them that long to fact-check everything.

I've got better things to do with 6 months time...and if i want to die, i got quicker...instantaneous ways of doing it so as to avoid any type of slow and painful death.

FYI, the actor that plays the Dos Equis guy in the commercials is a Jewish guy from Jersey. Now THAT'S exotic!

Wow, This guy just about did it all. I've spoken to a few old timers who tell incredible stories from time to time. I normally take these stories with a grain of salt for accuracy but the stories themselves are very entertaining.
