milk - if you consider a much lower price point and far better specs to be the same, yes. but most don't.

nope. ultrabook becomes your only machine - no need for heavy & bulky laptop anymore because ultra can match it spec-wise while providing almost same form factor as a tablet but/w keyboard and true computing capabilities.

Does Vizio even make good computers? Don't think I've heard of them outside of TVs before.

I'm thinking of buying one of the new 11.6' ultraportables that Asus is releasing soon.

iced - this will be vizio's entrance into the laptop market, but their ceo is very familiar with the industry having revived gateway in the past.

11.6" too small for me, but understand the attraction of netbooks for others who have a primary machine already.

just looking for a very light 13" or 14" max w/HD screen & top intel chip as my only machine, will then retire my current thinkpad.

Yea that 13" or 14" size is better, but it's usually more expensive. The Asus 11.6" is only $399, most ultraportables that are 13" or 14" are >$800. I'm a cheap college kid so I have to be somewhat frugal. I already have a 16" laptop, but it's too bulky and I could use an upgrade seeing as how it's over two years old.

yeah prices not announced yet, but vizio will surely undercut the bigger brands like they do with their tv's. i'd wait before buying the 11.6" these vizio's are really making some noise..

yeah the wait is going to be brutal, but may be worth it due to some (hopefully) very competitive pricing and top specs.

on the flipside, take a look at samsung's new series 9 ultrabook which will probably be $1.3K..

I guess I'll wait to see how well Vizio prices.

$1.3k for a laptop/ultrabook is a ripoff... spending four figures on laptops is -EV in 2012 now with how competitive the pricing is compared to the specs.
