Actually, I think it's the opposite for most. People show their true feelings because they're anonymous and don't have to really answer to anyone. They hide behind their screen name and say things they'd never say to someone's face.

It's kind of like being honest when drunk -- a person's true feelings come out when they feel like there is zero responsibility or repercussion to what they're posting.
