Why do polo shirts even have a top button?

I have a black friend that always buttons the to top one. Style thing in his opinion.

i was coming here to post that almost every black kid i teach buttons the top button. it's trickled down to the white kids and i tell of of 'em to please unbutton it.

i guess it isn't THAT bad, just bugs me with certain shirts. like, nicer golf polos of a certain material look okay. i still unbutton 'em, but i guess i get it.

I never understood the top button, either. Not like you're going to be wearing a tie with that shirt!

worse is certain guys you see that wear button down shirts and only button the top button..or maybe top two..with a beater underneath..i think we know where i'm going with this..

Honestly, if button the top button is the new style, I'll take that any day over ghetto baggy jeans and oversized white t-shirts.

You have to keep the top button closed at all times so that the other polo shirt you're wearing underneath won't escape.
