Sounds like the repairs are gonna be around 2000 bucks. It's a '98 Accord...
Should I just buy a different used car or hope to go on a big win streak?!

Several questions...how many miles are on it? Have you done any other major repairs on it recently? Have you been good at maintaining it? Just don't finance a new car...one of the worse financial moves you can make..in my opinion at least.

It's not unheard of to get 0% financing for a new car....and that's the ONLY time I'd say it's worth considering getting a new car in general
new cars are a losing proposition period.

owned couple of accords, nice cars.
i would repair it if it's the only thing wrong with it. they can and do last over 300k miles with proper maintenance.

Wow 2k on a Honda, guessing the tranny? Depends I guess on how long you plan on keeping the car going forward? If with the repair you can and want to get 3-4 more years out of it then worth it IMO.

thing you have to do is see how much the car is worth and then see what the repair bill is if the repair bill is close to what the car is worth then get rid of it

Been busy the past few days...didn't see all the replies earlier. Turned out that some wires just needed replacing cuz they were so old and worn out. $150 repair...a little better than buyin a whole new car id say

Buy a new car. The cost to fix seems higher than the residual value of the car itself.
i've actually made this point before. you'd pay about 7k plus taxes for a segway (123k points in the sbr store). you can probably get a new nissan versa for under 11k. so i'd say about 200k points sounds about right.

glad to hear it was something miniscule samgurt. my car went out a few weeks ago (trans) and it was about 2500 to rebuild it. i had a 02 kia spectra that i only paid 3k for it like 4 years ago. so it wasnt worth repairing. i dont have 2500 anyways. so no car for now

JDM tranny's and engines are the way to go for imports. I had a tranny and motor swaped, with one from japan for $1200. That was for a 95 infinity g20 in 2003. It lasted 7 more years till the body rusted out.

chevys are awful & dangerous.
my first car was a chevy and the transmission blew while under warranty. dealer took a month to fix it. didn't even give me a rental either.
my dad owned a chevy truck that used to accelerate all on its own and nearly killed him.
now we only buy reliable cars: honda, acura, toyota, lexus and nissan.

Had an '89 Accord that I bought used.......It served it's purpose for 5 years and basically got rid of it and bought me a new truck. Would have kept the Honda longer, but would no longer pass a smog check.
It was a good car.

Had an 88 Accord, put 325K on it, gave it away
and they blew it up in 3 months. Hate buying
cars, but a grand or two is better then 5 years
of payments for some of us. Repair, but glad
yours worked out pretty good.
