In the last 5 years or so. Something totaally awesome and unexpected. I have been on aol chatting for quite some time. I was speaking to a girl out of state..she is 1000 miles away from me. She is cute and is about 9 years younger and has her own house paid off already. Now to the shocking and um wow moment..birthday was recent..my bday and she insisted on sending me something. We never met eye to eye..she is very cute and i'm not...ok here goes..i get this envelope and open it...5 one hundred dollar bills...500 bucks...i thought i was in twilight zone...ok your turn

Wait, wondering how I never ended up in jail after all of the lifetime damage I have caused.

It was when I got arrested in TJ and held hostage up in the hills for 31 hours, terrified the hell out of me and didn't think I was going to make it out alive...

Not to bring the mood down or anything, but within the last 5 years...probably when I found out my mom had passed away of terminal cancer. Expected in her case, but still shocking for a kid just starting college at the time.

Seeing some clown I knew from high school driving his new sports bike 100 miles an hour in a residential zone and smashing into an SUV backing out of their driveway. Splat would be the best word to describe it. RIP.

I went to college near the beach and one Friday we had a big beach party. I was planning on going home to visit the family and party with some friends, but decided to stop by the beach party before I left. We're all standing around drinking and BSing and I see my buddy Troy getting his sailboard ready. I talk with Troy for a few minutes before he hit the water, I remember telling him to be careful there was supposed to be a big storm coming in and I'd see him after I got back after the weekend.
I was on the road when that storm came in and it was bad, very heavy winds and rain. I get back to the dorms Sunday night to find out that Troy was missing, went sailboarding and hadn't been seen since. Turns out I was the last person to talk to him. His sailboard was found off the coast of Louisiana about 10 days after he went missing and part of his torso was found near Port Aransas about a week after that.

One time I grabbed a set of conduits running down some stadium lights in my hometown's softball field. Guess it wasn't grounded right or something; got quite the jolt.

Pulling my friends lifeless body out of a car wreck and trying (unsuccessfully) to resuscitate him. Driver was going to fast on wet roads after a big storm one night and hit a massive puddle in a dip in the road, lost control and span out until we hit a bank of grass at the side of the road and ended up rolling over a couple times before coming to rest upside down in a couple of feet of standing water in the middle of a bogged down field.

Somehow I came away without a scratch, the driver and the guy in the back with me had minor injuries, but my mate in the passenger seat directly in front of me was knocked unconscious during the roll and was either killed outright from that or knocked out and then drowned in the time it took us to get him free from the car and out of the water.

The thing that really messed with my head for a long time was the conversation we had before getting in the car as he called shotgun just as I jumped into the passenger seat - he was adamant that he called it and wanted to sit in the front, I initially refused but eventually gave in and jumped into the back seat behind him...a decision which ended up saving my life in the end, but likely at the cost of his.

Took a long time to come to terms with that, and even now, years later, I dont think I am fully over it...

Probably getting into a decently prestigious college for me; I wasn't exactly a great student through high school.

Yea, I was a horrible student till undergrad which is why I ended up at state. I didn't think I had a chance to get into Stanford for graduate school though, and was absolutely shocked when I did.

everybody hit the deck except me, bullets literally whizzed past my head im talking mm not inches, dopey mutha f me thought it was fireworks lol.

I survived a lightning strike without a scratch. My friend was less than 10 ft away. His face was priceless when I got up. It looked like he was looking at a ghost. I have never seen terror on someone's face like he had on his.

                                                                i have 2:
                                                                1. i was falling from a tree when i was 6 or 7 - from the top of it, but i didn't break anything, cause on the way down i got stuck between two branches with my neck it hurt and i still have small scars, but i would never think that one can get stuck in such a way without breaking a neck, and avoiding falling down.
                                                                2. i was skiing in Montana and when circling a mountain i was blinded for a moment and flew off the ski track and off the whole mountain. It was steep like crazy, so i was hanging on one of my skies and the second one was far lower stuck in snow - i couldn't move up, cause i was hanging like alpinist in almost vertical position. The only person who had seen me was the skateboarder behind ( i was the last among my buddies) - he rescued me and told me i was blinded by snow that fell of the mountain
