but the regular marathon will always bet the top distance run because its what the sponsors support and is easily televised.

these ultra marathons last so long and people take breaks within them to eat and rest. They are not set up for fans to watch and sponsors dont want to sponsor them because theyre so long.

Ultramarathons like this are pretty common place now. I think people are just slowly realising that the human body is capable of some crazy shit when it ignores the mental barrier imposed by society that a regular marathon is a monumental feat. Didn't Dean Karnazes run 350 miles without stopping to sleep or rest, in 3 days or something?

I think most ultramarathons have prize money of maybe a few grand for the winner, so with some training, $42,000 an hr to jog, Id have to give it a shot...

One of the most famous, the Badwater 135mile ultra, from the lowest point of Death Valley up to the base of Mt Whitney, in July, temps of 120F.

"Due to the two mountain ranges that must be crossed between Badwater and Whitney, the course's cumulative elevation gain exceeds 19,000 feet (5,800 m)"

$995 entry fee for the privilege...

I don't think that's right. You would have to average at least 6 1/4 miles an hour or 10:41 minutes a mile.

            I couldn't do it.

yea the badwater one though is considered the hardest ultramarthon there is because of the excessive heat and whatnot. This stuff is possible, just insanely hard.

I'm tired after my 6:40 Mile, so I don't think I'll be attempting this.
