    Blu Ray Players STupid Question
Hey, Im in the process of redoing my living room and having purchased new TV, surround receiver and speakers, etc. Have a question. How good/bad is the Blu Ray player on the PS3 in comparison to buying a seperate blu ray only player.

    Any input is appreciated.

    Thanks

The quality difference between a PS3 or an actual blueray player is negligible at least to my eyes. I think for most people, if they have a PS3, they are not going to go out and buy another blueray player. Just seems redundant.

I have a PS3 already in my game room (and yes Im 30 years old) but the TV it is on is only 720 so was not sure.

I am getting additional player for new theatre set up in living room and was curious whether to buy a new playstaion(what I want) or just a blu ray player.

                    Thanks for all input guys

I would go with the 2nd Playstation. It is a very good bluray player on it's own.

i also use the ps3 as a bluray player, not the greatest (no display on the unit, have to turn it off on the system instead of the remote, etc) but works fine.

if you're going to use it for games then of course use the ps3. if not, you can get much better bluray players cheaper than the ps3.

when you say cant turn it except on system what do you mean? you can use the ps3 game controller to turn it off..etc. unless you mean something else..

PS3 is an exceptional blu ray player.. its speed and versatility is unmatched in many 200$ and less blu ray players... BUT it has one huge downfall.. it does not up-convert DVDs to 1080p.. so therefore ur entire dvd collection is in standard def... so a 2nd blu ray player that does a great job in up-conversion is a necessity if u have over 50DVDs.. I recommend Pioneer as they up-convert at the highest level and are 1/3 price of Denon or other high definition 1080p perfectionist players.

Separate Blu-Ray is faster loading, upconverts sd DVD and is cheaper. Only get the ps3 if your kids play games on it, otherwise wast of money.

On a side note upconversion may be a mute point reason being all HD tvs upconvert incoming signals to their native resolution. Therefore your tv may do a better job than a separate player. Unless you have a real cheapo tv you should be fine either way.

Middle range surround sound receivers are now also coming with faroudja scalers built in. Its should say on the front. If it costs more than 400 it should be in there. Works very well for all inputs.
