I am not sure how old you are, but if you near my age (36) and never been married, I would be slightly surprised by your disgust towards marriage.

When I was in my twenties, I was gambling, drinking, fornicating and all the other stuff guys in their 20's do. The thing is, one day you look up and you aren't 20 anymore. I have never been married. I HATE it. I wish more than ANYTHING I had a wife and kids right now. You know why? Because all the things we THINK make us happy evaporate over time. Love and the bond that it builds is so strong and so beautiful. Would I trade in my past experiences? Hell no! What I am saying is that marriage and love are not to be dismissed so flippantly. I wish I had spent more time CULTIVATING real relationships than trying to establish one night ones. Just my point of view.

For me it has nothing to do with love, happyness, etc. It is simply put a smart financial proposition. Taxes, insurance, among other things make it a no brainer.

I have accomplished much more with my wife, than I ever did without her. Life is a lot easier as part of a team.

When you meet someone with similar interests and goals and you never want to be apart from that person, getting married is a no brainer. However, I think 90% of the girls out there are friggin crazy, and you should look ultra hard before making a committment. I literally went on a ton of first dates before I found the one.

Great post Caspar. I'm becoming a fan. I've been with my wife since college. When I was younger I couldn't imagine being with the same woman for the rest of my life. It was enough to make me wonder why anyone would get married. But eventually the parties get old and one week I was in Florida with a bunch of my buddies, driving over this bridge from Naples (?) to Fort Myers about 5 in the morning all alone after an all nighter. I realized I wasn't only all alone, I was very lonely. I couldn't wait to get back home, immediately proposed to my now wife and then put every nickel I had on the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XXVI to buy the engagement ring.

Fast forward 17 years and I've got 3 kids and my wife is more awesome today than when I met her. I am a very lucky guy and could not imagine life without them. While we all wont get lucky when it comes to women, I promise you this, there isn't one guy out there who wishes he never had kids who already has them. The women, meh, I get that. But the kids man. Trust me, they're priceless. I happened to hit the exacta and got a great girl on top of it.
