Do you guys know if I need to get fired or layed off to collect unemployment? I cannot just quit right?

depends i quit my job in feburary in colorado and filed for unemployement and was denied because i quit for regular company standards they said. I know of another employee that quit and they granted him it because they said he was hired but didnt have qualifications for the job so we shouldnt of expected him to succeed. it really depends on the reason you quit. i know quite a bit about it if you want to pm me

Laid off and you'll get it no questions asked. If you quit, most likely not. If you get fired, it kind of depends. If you're a lazy, incompetent, moron that gets fired for a good reason there's a good chance the company will contest it but they may just be glad to have you out of their hair.

When we wanted to get rid of people, rather than going through the trouble of firing someone (with documented disciplines, etc.), we would just bring them in the office and say "Look, you and I both know you're not going to make it here. If you sign this resignation letter we'll give you some severance and we won't contest your unemployment."

It doesn't take a genius to figure out which is the best deal.

Do your best not to quit......I know a lot of jobs sucks due to the work environment. Try to have a plan B if possible if you quit.

A long time ago I quit a job that I couldn't really stand anymore due to mostly politics and backstabbing.....Well a couple weeks later, I got a temporary 4 day job, got laid off, collected UI benefits until a better job that popped up later.

Well jobs were more plentiful back then.

If I remember correctly in my state, if you got fired, there's a 5 week waiting period before you can finally collect benefits. Well getting fired is never good on your resume.

Management has workers by the balls now due to the crappy jobs market and they know it.

Times are tough now and do your best to hang in there.....Better to have a shitty job then to be put on the streets.

I guess it might depend on the state....but in my state..... No, you can't just quit. And if you get fired for the wrong reason you can't collect unemployment either.
