Man tries to sell child for 2 forty ouncers

Authorities say a Massachusetts man offered to give his 3-month-old daughter to a maintenance man outside a gas station convenience store in exchange for a pair of 40-ounce beers.

Chicopee police say 24-year-old Matthew Brace of Northampton made the offer on Monday.

The maintenance man called police, who found Brace hiding with the girl behind a trash container.

State child welfare officials took the baby into custody.

Police say Brace was not arrested but will be summoned to court to face a charge of reckless endangerment of a child.

A phone number for him could not immediately be found.

The child's mother was in the store at the time buying cigarettes.

She has not been charged.

I remember when I used to drink 40 ouncers and I would call each 40 "a beer".

When I was 15-16 I would take it any way I could get it. 40's,Naty Light,Boone's Farm, MD20/20, Wild Irish Rose, gut rot vodka/tequilla it didn't matter back then. We were just happy to get our hands on the alcohol. I would not drink that sh!t today. But when your a kid.

What is the deal about a 40 being for bums or rot gut

a 40 is 40 ounces of beer, where a regular can has 12. So bums can afford more beer? Buying a 40 of Budweiser makes you a bum or makes it bad beer instead of buying a 12 pack of Southpaw? I don't get this reasoning

40 oz is usually referred to as such for beers with high alcohol content.. like malt liquor.

Bums like it because it's cheap (low-quality) and it's easy to carry it around.

I had never heard of Northampton, MA so I was leaning white guy. If the report said 2 40s of Mickeys then I would've known he was white. If report said Private Stock, it could go either way.
