Maybe think of how many soldiers that left for WW II and never came back, remember seeing that statue and torch, slowly drop below sea level and out of sight, as they left for Europe in WW II. That was their last glimpse of the United States.

My Dad did, and only wounded, lived to make it back. See, back then, a large number of soldiers were taken to Europe by boat and those boats left from New York.
