Per the official DOGE website, which tallies and showcases cancelled contracts, grants, and leases, the team stated to have already recorded savings nearing the $150 billion mark.

The White House has confirmed that Musk plans to step down once his term expires. DOGE, after pledging $2 trillion in savings, has reported saving the government a total of $160 billion.

However, even these claimed savings have not resulted in any significant reduction in overall government expenditure this year, as per the nonpartisan Penn Wharton Budget Model, which monitors weekly Treasury data.

Total expenditure has increased by 6.3 percent, or $156 billion since Trump assumed office, compared to the first four months of 2024, stated Kent Smetters, a Wharton professor who oversees the model.

Even after adjusting for inflation, the federal government has added an additional $81.2 billion in spending compared to the same timeframe last year, he further noted.
