H.R. McMaster is pointing to Donald Trump for the chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Donald Trump may have made the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan worse for President Biden.
General H.R. McMaster told CNN’s Anderson Cooper Monday night that Trump, while president, sought to negotiate with the Taliban as U.S. troops began leaving Afghanistan, which undermined the Afghan government. As a result, the U.S. government forced the Afghan government to release 5,000 members of the Taliban.

The former national security adviser was on CNN to discuss his new book, At War With Ourselves: My Tour of Duty in the Trump White House. The revelation puts the chaos of the 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan into greater context, as conservatives sought to lay much of the blame onto Biden and successfully pushed that narrative into media coverage.

It’s the latest damaging revelation from McMaster’s book. Last week, an early excerpt from the book detailed how Russian autocrat Vladimir Putin was able to manipulate Trump by playing on his “ego and insecurities.” On Monday, another newly revealed excerpt described meetings in the Oval Office as “exercises in competitive sycophancy” where Trump made particularly “outlandish” suggestions, including one instance in which he asked, “Why don’t we just bomb the drugs?” in regards to narcotics in Mexico.

McMaster is one of many of Trump’s former national security officials to criticize the now convicted felon for his conduct as president. One of his other former national security advisers, John Bolton, said earlier this month that Trump “can’t tell the difference between what’s true and what’s false.”

Former White House chief of staff John Kelly has described the former president as “a person that has no idea what America stands for and has no idea what America is all about.… A person that has nothing but contempt for our democratic institutions, our Constitution, and the rule of law. There is nothing more that can be said.”

Is it a coincidence or does everyone Trump hires, ends up telling us how awful he is to work for. Yet his cult believes all these people have it out for Trump and he’s the victim. Unreal.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton raids Latino Democrats' homes, including those of LULAC members

The nation's oldest Latino civil rights organization, LULAC, is one of several entities in Texas targeted in voter fraud raids led by state Attorney General Ken Paxton, CBS News has learned.

In a letter first obtained by CBS News, LULAC requested that the Justice Department investigate Paxton's office for Voting Rights Act violations. The organization is accusing Paxton's office of carrying out illegal searches premised on voter fraud.

"These actions echo a troubling history of voter suppression and intimidation that has long targeted both Black and Latino communities, particularly in states like Texas, where demographic changes have increasingly shifted the political landscape," LULAC CEO Juan Proaño and the group's national president, Roman Palomares, said in the letter.

The Justice Department confirmed receipt of the letter and declined to comment further.

Last week, Paxton's office announced in a press release that it was launching undercover operations and an investigation into reports alleging some organizations in Texas are unlawfully registering noncitizens to vote, in violation of state and federal law.

LULAC officials told CBS News that some of the group's Texas members were targeted and had their laptops and cell phones confiscated by Texas authorities executing search warrants. Some of the raids focused on Latino activists across the state.

"Attorney General Paxton is using his position of authority to harass and intimidate Latino non-profit organizations like LULAC, Latino Leaders and LULAC members," Juan Proaño, LULAC's CEO told CBS News, calling the state AG's effort "point-blank" voter intimidation. "It is evident through his pattern of lawsuits, raids, searches, and seizures that he is trying to keep Latinos from voting."

Proaño said one of those targeted was Lidia Martinez, an 87-year-old who lives in San Antonio. Martinez has been a LULAC member for over 35 years and works to expand voter registration among seniors and veterans in South Texas.

She said that last Tuesday, there was a knock on her door in the morning, and she was greeted by nine officers in tactical gear and firearms who said they were executing a search warrant. Martinez was questioned for over three hours about her voter registration efforts in Texas.

Law enforcement seized Martinez's phone, computer, personal calendar, blank voter registration forms and her certificate to conduct voter registration, according to Martinez.

"This is a free country, this is not Russia," Martinez said Monday during a press conference denouncing the raid.

Manuel Medina, the chair of Tejano Democrats, is another LULAC member who was targeted, LULAC's CEO said. Medina's home was raided last Thursday by police in riot gear, who were armed and broke down his door, according to LULAC officials.

Paxton's office said in its news release it would continue to conduct undercover operations led by its Election Integrity Unit. The Texas AG's office said it received a referral from the 81st Judicial District Attorney Audrey Louis regarding "allegations of election fraud and vote harvesting that occurred during the 2022 elections." The release added that a two-year investigation "provided sufficient evidence to obtain the search warrants."

This unit was created in the aftermath of Trump's 2020 election loss to President Biden and aimed to probe alleged voter fraud across the state, even though officials in the Trump administration said the election had been secure.

"My office is investigating every credible report we receive regarding potential criminal activity that could compromise the integrity of our elections," Paxton said. "The Biden-Harris Administration has intentionally flooded our country with illegal aliens, and without proper safeguards, foreign nationals can illegally influence elections at the local, state, and national level."

Biden's departure from Afghanistan was a complete debacle - and unforced. He didn't have to telegraph the date and locations (led to terror attack killing and maiming US servicemen), didn't have to surrender tens of billions in armaments, didn't have to turn over the US built airbase ... but he did that and it is all on him.

Then someone writes an article and says, 'hey - it's Trump's fault'.

And naturally, you can't believe how deluded Trump's "cult" is. There's some irony here.

My belief is that her strategy of not speaking to the press is an inevitable fail - because it will just attract more attention to when she finally has to speak on her feet in front of a camera ... and if she isn't perfectly in command it will just draw more attention to her shortcomings.

He just became president and had a job to do. Draining the swamp would take decades and probably is impossible to do. You can only try and reduce the swampiness of Washington.

Trump of course can't do it all. There is some learning initially. Of course there are generals who will say negative stuff about Trump. They are the ones who had the country in decades long wars and nation building other countries. What are they gonna say? Uh ya like we just wanted the war to continue because like this is what we do and we make billions for our friends. No, they are gonna say shit about Trump because he exposes them for the war mongers they are.

Also, its not everyone that Trump hires. Washington is filled with incompetent grifters. 35 trillion in debt but the many of the same clowns that have been in powers for years. They will send hundreds of millions to other countries to build wall, but will pass legislation so that Trump couldn't divert any more money from the defense budget to help secure the southern border with a wall. All of a sudden walls don't work. Never have. during the DNC, huge walls were put up because they simply don't do a thing to prevent people from coming in. But here ya go Jordan, here's 500 million! Build that wall! Build it high! Courtesy of the American taxpayer! Walls for everyone. Money for everyone. Wars for everyone. Just remember, Trump is evil for trying to build a wall at the southern border, we must stop him.

But hey, I will vote for Kamala because she is black and a woman and that's all that's important. Yeah Kamala you go girl. You were great as the border czar and you use pronouns to describe yourself. America's enemies respect that. Everything will be wonderful if you are the next president. You are smart and a woman and you aren't white. We love you Kamala.

Some are now actively working against him. Three are running against him in the presidential primary. Others have stayed relatively quiet after resigning in protest. There was an 18-month stretch that saw no combat, or “hostile,” deaths in Afghanistan: from early February 2020 to August 2021.

There were two combat deaths reported in early February 2020, when Trump was president, and none reported again until late August 2021, when an attack killed 13 U.S. troops amid the exit from Afghanistan, during Biden’s presidency.

Looking at other periods of Trump’s presidency also tells a different story than the one he offered.

During the last, full 18 months before Trump left office in January 2021 — from July 2019 to December 2020 — there were 12 combat deaths reported.

Trump had close to 80 people he selected and like 70 of them he fired or resigned. How does that happen in real life? You don’t think that’s a huge knock on him as a leader? Do you think those people were all the problem? Can you at least admit he’s not very good at hiring people?
