The problem is when your take-home pay is so low after taxes that you and your family qualify for food stamps.
Go ahead and prove millionaires would find a way to convert income into tips. Why aren’t they converting income into tax-free gifts now?
Josh - I'm not saying they didn't say this to you. I'm sure they did. And they may not be lying BUT they obviously are confused about their taxes. Once again, I am not a tax expert but taxes are on taxable income. Withholding of taxes is based on what you make and what you claim on your W-4. The IRS does not jack up taxes for some workers. You are not penalized because you work for tips. The negative paychecks take into account the money they made on cash tips. Maybe they're not telling you that?

Yes, food stamps are based on several factors. Low pay is one of them. Some bartenders make very good money working in high end establishments. Some barely eek out a living. Our tax code is clearly stated.

I can't prove millionaires finding ways to convert income into tips because there's no tax break on tips. But, some experts have said that this would create a loophole for the wealthy.

Okay, for those that question Taylor Swift getting tips.... How about a model on Only Fans. Her subscribers pay a monthly subscription but she makes most all her money by people tipping her. So now, you have these girls making hundreds of thousands of dollars get paid tax free? Come on.

Imagine how much money Walmart could save by calling each employee's first $17,000 a year a gift and therefore isn't subject to any taxes on the employee's or employer's side.
There's no incentive for a company to gift money to their employees. Sure, it would help the employee but you as a company would not be able to write off the expense. Walmart would not save money by gifting. They would lose $17k per employee. That's money coming out of Walmart's pockets. Think about it. What incentive is there for you to give me $17k? You may like me but you are now out of $17k. Now gifting to your kids or a relative is another story. Also, I think there's a maximum lifetime gift exclusion of like $13 million. Maybe one day I'll get lucky and someone will gift me the max. Haha

Tax lawyers will find ways. They will test the IRS. The IRS then tries to remove the loopholes. I am amazed how these lawyers can restructure businesses, processes, etc., to reduce taxes. They are much smarter than me. Several experts have already come out on this and have said that this no tax on tips would have very little impact on the poor and the wealthy would most likely benefit the most. I'm no expert. I really don't know because I haven't seen the plan, nor would I know what to do.

Josh - according to this. https://www.workstream.us/wage-index...minimum%20wage.

The minimum wage in Nevada is $12/hour. Tipped workers are paid $3.35 per hour BUT they must also receive tips that bring their hourly earnings to at least the $12/hour. That's approximately $25k per year which those workers with a family already wouldn't pay any taxes. Any money withheld would be refunded.

          ONLYFANS

Other celebrities and well-known influencers have earned similarly large amounts at their peak too.

          Bella Thorne - $11 million.

Although her monthly subscription is free, through tips and requests, Thorne has been able to generate massive revenue.
          Cardi B - $9.43 million

Like Blac Chyna, rapper Cardi B is no longer on OnlyFans but when she was, she managed to bring in over $9 million.
          Tyga - $7.69 million

The rapper deleted his OnlyFans account in 2021 but hit his peak at more than $7 million.
          Mia Khalifa - $6.42 million

After leaving the adult film industry, Khalifa joined OnlyFans to take back her brand and post the type of content she wanted.
          Bhad Bhabie - $5.2 million

The social media star charges subscribers $23.99 per month to see her exclusive content on OnlyFans making her one of the top earners on the platform.
          Erica Mena- $4.49 million

The TV star allegedly made over $4 million per year through tips and exclusive content.
          Gemma McCourt- $2.9 million

Known as Gem101 on OnlyFans, the social media influencer has become wildly popular on OnlyFans. She charges fans $30 per month for a basic subscription, earning her a spot on the list.

I tried to explain all this a week ago but it fell on deaf ears.

This thing is tribal. It has nothing to do with thought process.

I do admire your persistence Mac.

The minimum wage in Nevada is a moot case. Dealers can and do make 6 figure salaries a year due to tokes or tips. If someone making 125 thousand a year complains about the minimum wage, you basically have a fool. Billions of dollars a year in tips go towards their salaries all over the state.

This is why you rarely hear them complain about the ''minimum wage''. They do not want to pay taxes on their tips which is understandable at some level. But it is the major source of their income. All income is taxed.

There is no fair way to handle the situation unless there is a ''flat tax'' in which everyone pays the same at their particular level of society.

Let me throw in this thought. Players tip and the floor people now keep track of the tips a player hands out to the dealers. If a guy plays BJ (for instance) and loses 200,000 thousand for his 3 day trip. Now he goes for some comps. He tells his host he lost 200 grand he wants this and that. The host will tell him ''we have you losing only 180 thousand. The player doesn't understand. The host has to inform him that the 20,000 he left in tokes during his win streaks does not count as a loss.
That's the only way the Casino can keep some of their money. Once the money goes out for tokes, it is a loss to the bottom line of the Casino. Restaurant is different.

I'm just saying. It's not all just black and white. Casino's can hire dealers at a flat rate of lets say 50 or 60 thousand a year. Then so many other factors enter in.

On Friday in North Carolina, Vice President Harris intends to announce a plan to prevent corporations in the food and grocery industries from unfairly jacking up prices on consumers, by imposing the first-ever federal ban on corporate price-gouging in these industries.

Yes , it’s the price gouging that’s the problem . The Harris honeymoon begins to wind down starting tomorrow .

Exactly. Every single employee would say they volunteer their time and in return their employer gives them a series of small gifts (which are tax free). Why aren't they all doing that???!

You and I are smart enough to understand that that isn't exploiting a loophole, that's straight up cheating on their taxes. Just like Taylor Swift would be cheating on her taxes if she ever said her singing income was all tips.

When tips are the primary or very large source of income, it should be taxed. Why should someone who makes 20k wages and 40k tips per year pay less than someone who makes 50k wages and no tips? Is there a rationale?

I'm good with some de minimis exception or simplification, but my example is unfair and wrong.

Americans pay two to three times more for prescription drugs than they would anywhere else.

But the Biden Administration beat Big Pharma.

BREAKING: Members of the Republican House delegation are meeting tonight in panic because Donald Trump is losing badly and dragging down their poll numbers. Even Republicans are beginning to admit Trump is too old and senile to be a winning nominee.

Some dealers are making major bank at high end casinos. What is never said is how much money NEVER gets reported. I had a great night in the casino many years ago. I asked the dealer, "what time do you get off"? Meet me by the steak house when you get off the clock. I gave her $1,000 and told her that it was a gift, you are not working or on the clock, the money is yours. Do you think she reported it or put it in the community chest? Did I claim it as a gift? Heck no. Some folks make a ton of money under the table.

I was good friends with a waitress at the Sahara. Now, she didn't make much money, especially when they went to $1 tables years ago. So I understand that a lot of people do not make a lot of money. I can see where some are on food stamps. Most people know they're probably not going to get rich waiting on tables.

You do realize in multiple states (not Nevada), the tipped minimum wage is $2.13 an hour, right? The IRS does, and they realize a lot of these workers make the bulk of their money in cash, so they jack up the taxes the workers pay to get a chunk of it.

The problem is when your take-home pay is so low after taxes that you and your family qualify for food stamps.

Go ahead and prove millionaires would find a way to convert income into tips. Why aren’t they converting income into tax-free gifts now?

It’s not taxable. The IRS allows up to $17,000 a year in cash gifts, so why don’t people just call the first $17,000 a tax-free gift? Lying, hypocrite Hicks claims that hedge fund managers will simply call their income a tip, but why aren’t they now calling the first $17,000 they get from each client a cash gift and therefore it’s not taxable? 100 clients gifting up to $17,000 each year is over 1 million tax-free. I don’t know of anyone who spends up to $17,000 on Taylor Swift, I’m not sure what her tickets go for, but why doesn’t she just and her team of CPAs call all income up to $17,000 derived from each person a gift? Because the IRS won’t allow it!

Now, if you think there are a lot of loopholes to exploit, I seriously urge you to open your own CPA or tax law firm and take advantage of the loopholes. Of course, we all know you won’t, because it will never work and you’ll both end up in jail.

I feel sorry for the ones who met you. They’ve all told me about their run-ins with you, some guy from Michigan that everybody that knows him hates. They got you banned from the casinos since you’re always trying to reach into their tip jars and get your fair share of their tips.

That’s not what corporations do, the government schools set them up to fail and you’re so brainwashed you defend it.

I have listened to him, the problem is he’s wrong. If people call income tips and claim it’s tax-free, they would claim their first $17,000 is a gift and therefore tax-free, but they aren’t doing that.

I’m not attacking a dead poker player, I’m pointing out the hypocrisy of a living want-to-be pro poker player, a person whose goal in life is to do nothing for anyone else while still making money is attacking someone who makes others’ lives better.

It has recently come to light that TFG accepted $10 million from Egypt shortly after the election in 2016.

As The Washington Post recently reported, “Five days before Donald Trump became president in January 2017, a manager at a bank branch in Cairo received an unusual letter from an organization linked to the Egyptian intelligence service. It asked the bank to ‘kindly withdraw’ nearly $10 million from the organization’s account — all in cash.”

                                                                  That sounds totally legitimate,

The Post further reported that the discovery of the $10 million withdrawal intensified a secret criminal investigation that had begun two years earlier with classified U.S. intelligence indicating that Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi sought to give Trump $10 million to boost his 2016 presidential campaign.

The Justice Department had been examining whether money moved from Cairo to Trump potentially violating federal law that bans U.S. candidates from taking foreign funds.

Investigators had also sought to learn if money from Sisi might have factored into Trump’s decision in the final days of his run for the White House to inject his campaign with $10 million of his own money.

And that totally tracks if you believe in coincidences.

Of course, Bill Barr, TFG’s Attorney General, stepped in and blocked prosecutors and FBI agents from obtaining bank records that might serve as corroboration.

So, what did TFG do for Egypt in exchange for $10 million? As the Post reported, while he was in the White House, he “shifted U.S. policy in ways that benefited the Egyptian leader, a man he once called ‘my favourite dictator.’”

In 2018, Trump’s State Department released $195 million in military aid that the United States had been withholding over human rights abuses — a move that had been opposed by his first secretary of state — followed by the release of $1.2 billion more in such assistance.

It looks like Sisi got his money’s worth out of TFG.
