Tribute to the movie VISION QUEST

First off, I acknowledge the flaws in the movie. Like many movies, the more you look, the more flaws you find. I'll start with the list:

1) Didn't bother anyone that Shute VISUALLY weighed 30 pounds more than Loudon?
...You do sometimes see "longer" wrestlers that give the muscular guy problems.

2) Loudon/Shute wrestled at a weight that would NOT be the final match of a dual.

3) The scene where the guy "comes onto" Loudon seemed to come out of nowhere.

4) The living arrangement seemed ridiculous.
...Attractive woman decides to move in with high-school age guy. OK.

5) The Kuch pep talk during the last match is a hack-job.
..."You're killin' em" isn't correct if your guy is down 4 points.

All that said, this movie gets it right on so many levels. In wrestling rooms, I'd say that the term "vision quest" has grown into the vernacular.

See the recent NCAA wrestling tournament. Purdue's Ramos didn't use the exact term "vision quest." But he did say that Lee was "in my head." That sounds a lot like a "vision quest." Ramos was envisioning a chance where he took out the champ...and he did.

The wrestling action in this movie is actually very believable. The Shute actor was an accomplished wrestler. He absolutely air-mails Maclean in one of the lead-up matches.

*I won't necessarily call this a plot flaw. But a Regular Season dual isn't the end of the season. Always wondered how the Loudon/Shute rivalry played out at Conference/Regional/State.

Every High School wrestler went thru the same things Loudon did:

*The sweat suit.
*The weight cut and weigh-in.
*The camaraderie with teammates.
*The improvement with good practice partners.
*The intense training.
*The nose-bleeds and the fainting.

Pretty good, Donk. Modine got himself in good shape, it looked believable. Movie that holds up over time.

Think about the modern movies. A lot of them, I can't get past 10 minutes.

Totally forgot about Gotcha...now I vaguely remember the premise. Have not seen or even though about it since the 80s/90s.

However, i did see Vision Quest in the past 5-10 years and still enjoyed it.
