Yes! Everyone wants a tip. Cashier wants a tip for ringing me up. I want a tip for buying there.

When I see a hot girl I want to give her my tip.

If you dont tip, the businesses will get your money either way. They'll raise prices to afford to pay higher wages. You pick because you are going to lose either way. I'll take tipping

ok not for nothing a TIP is aka Gratuity or gift for service provided

if your not happy with waiter or waitress attytood leave a smaller tip with 2 pennies included thats a sign that they know you did not like thier service

hey they are humans and at 1st way back in 60's n 70's pay per hours was like $2 - $3 and taxed

i heard horror stories of big theater restaurant the Latin casino party of 8 bill was $250 tip .50 cents and two waiters or waitresses worked several tables

1 time a lady on like jerry springer or some other show never tipped and she boldly said they should go get a real job

i wish i could have met her and ask whats a REAL JOB beech

I always tip 20% servers make below average pay and rely on the tips. I hate when people say Oh it is up to the employer or they chose that profession those are just an excuse to screw someone over and be cheap. I am not going to punish a server who served me adequately and is trying to make a living. Same with doordash they are doing all the legwork and do not make a lot.

                        I stopped tipping awhile ago

Its simply owners/ceo's (millionaires and billionaires) cost shifting labor to the customer, many who are living paycheck to paycheck

Factor in the cost of minimum wage labor to your profuct and then I'll decide if I want it or not, but Im not tipping. Fukk that

You're paying the employees salary while the owner profits

It has nothing to do being on a moral high horse. It has everything to do not screwing someone who gave you service and is depending on tips to make a living. If a customer is living paycheck to paycheck then they should not be going out and spending all that money at a restaurant .They should be buying groceries and cooking food at home they would get more meals out of it . A family of 4 going to Longhorn would get 3xs the meals if they cooked the food themselves.

So what you are basically saying is the owner is profiting by not paying the worker so i should not pay the server to teach the owner a lesson? So i should screw the worker over because the boss is a dick. No. The only person being a dick then is me punishing someone who did their job and needs that tip to make a living. I am not an a-hole i will not do that.

We disagree on the last paragraph. If no one tips, people wont work there and the owners will be forced to change if they want to stay in business.

I am sympathetic to the servers and I was being dramatic, I do tip when I think appropriate. But tipping in the US is out of control and the restaurant owners have abused it for too long.

Why is the norm for restaurants to only pay servers $2.13/hr, and the allow the tips to compensate for the rest of the salary? Because it was legislated a such, bc of good lobbyist for really rich men getting richer.

The solution is ez, the servers should be paid min wage + tips. Not $2.13/hr + tips

I agree it should be changed and they should get paid more . I have traveled to other countries and you do not have to really tip because they make a lot more there.

And that what you just mentioned is why i do tip . The $2.13 Hr . It is not right but it is not the servers fault. Same with like Doordash drivers. They make $3 on a run plus tips. I just cannot punish someone just trying to make a living.

When i tip i only am thinking of the position the server is in. Not the owner just the person trying to make a living. So yes- if it did get changed to Mim wage +tips that would be great i would tip not as much. But until that happens the only person suffering when you do not tip is the server. I just cannot not tip a person making $2.13 an hour trying to make a living.

A restaurant? With a waiter or waitress or bartender? Absolutely tip 20%. But if you want a tip when I go pick up some take out food? Like a pizza or Jersey Mike's? Fukk that. The first time I see them ask for a tip when you slide your card to pay, that's my last visit there.

Yes that i agree with. Unless it is like a diner and a big order i will tip something for whoever put everything together in the boxes. Otherwise it depends how i feel. Like i went from my bank picking up some cash to pay my nieces later that work for me. On the way home i stopped to get a couple bagel sandwiches at a bagel shop Steak -Egg-Cheese a couple hash browns and a couple Iced Coffees for myself and my wife. As i was waiting for the food i saw they had a tip jar at the register that i already paid. I felt nice and threw $1 in there.

If that happens you will pay more for your dinner and then if you decide not to do that the company will go out of business. Then either you will have less restaurants to pick from or no restaurants to pick from.

Other countries value taking the time for meals. America is dedicated to work and quick service. I would bet the average check for breakfast, lunch and dinner are higher in other countries then here.

Factor in the cost of minimum wage labor to your profuct and then I'll decide if I want it or not, but Im not tipping. Fukk that
Literally everyone is covering you then to keep your costs for whatever service you buy at a reasonable price point.

hey they are humans and at 1st way back in 60's n 70's pay per hours was like $2 - $3 and taxed

i heard horror stories of big theater restaurant the Latin casino party of 8 bill was $250 tip .50 cents and two waiters or waitresses worked several tables

1 time a lady on like jerry springer or some other show never tipped and she boldly said they should go get a real job

i wish i could have met her and ask whats a REAL JOB beech
I have heard tons of stories like that. Can you imagine killing yourself for a big party of like 15 people and the person in charge of the bill does not leave a tip. It happens more then people think because everyone at the table thinks the person in charge of the bill will cover it and they stiff the server.

That is why a lot of restaurants will enforce a 15% or so charge automatically so crap like that does not happen .

You know that is a great point the time for meals. Some places they do not rush you or even bring the check until you ask for it. Pricewise i do not remember really paying that much more unless it is like a vacation spot. Like in Bermuda that was insanely overpriced . Although years back in Australia the US dollar back then was worth a ton more so everything if you paid with US dollar was dirt cheap. I remember getting a full steak dinner for like $3 US .

My wife worked in the industry for over 20 years, she's 44 now and moved on.
She worked both administrative (management) and bar.

Used to be a tip surcharge for tables of six or more, but that was ten years ago, it's probably more like 22 percent now.

It goes like this... if you're out with your friends... at a bar or restaurant... if it's not in your budget to leave at least 20%... you shouldn't be OUT. Period. Stay home.

As for some of these shops that ask if you want to leave a tip to pick up food? Yeah... it's ridiculous. There's no need to tip anyone preparing your food. They get an hourly wage for that. Christ... I have an idea... how about I order my food online.... drive to the place... make my own food... bag my own food and pay for my own food? Yeah... it's getting ridiculous.

Once upon a time restaurant servers were paid minimum wage because it was mandatory for owners to provide a meal each 8 hour shift for their workers.

One of my favorite sushi joints automatically adds 16% and there is no other tip line on the bill. It's great. I usually tip 20% to servers but if I am at the fukkin panda express, sorry. I have a problem with these goddamn point of sale systems that add a tipping option for workers that are not doing anything except their job. Fukk that. I am not playing along.

We rarely go out to eat anymore. Both of us have become very good cooks over the years. When you cook at home, you control all the ingredients, so you know exactly what you're eating. And it's all cooked to perfection - the right amount of salt and other spices and the right amount of "doneness". We help each other cook and cleanup afterwards. It's actually brought us closer.

I usually tip 20% to servers but if I am at the fukkin panda express, sorry. I have a problem with these goddamn point of sale systems that add a tipping option for workers that are not doing anything except their job. Fukk that. I am not playing along.
Totally agree, those point of sale screens are the worst.

It puts the customer on the spot while the employee looks at you waiting for their tip. Most of the places that use them you are not being waited on or take the food to go. I'm not tipping anywhere near 20% in those cases. I might throw $1-2 in the jar but that's about it...

THANK YOU !!!!!!!!! I said this a little earlier i hate when someone says i cannot afford the tip i have 3 kids etc.... Then why are you eating out that same amount you spent there if you go to a grocery store will feed your family for several days.

You know-if you have to eat out and want to feel pampered there are other ways to do it and still tip something. Friendlies used to have 50% off the entire breakfast . We used to go there and get 50% off not just the breakfast itself but even the drinks. The orange juice the coffee everything was 50% off for months. I have seen this at several Friendlies. Now take your 3 kids there at 50% off you can leave a tip with the money you saved . Or go on Swagbucks . Do surveys . Earn points ITS FREE. Build up points and get a gift card. I have $1500 in points right now . My wife has over $1000 + i think. Last night we ordered Doordash after cashing out $100 one and guess what. We did not spend a dime and covered the tip. They have Darden cards you can build up points and go to Olive garden or Longhorn several of them. They have Applebees. Get a $100 card that should pretty much cover everything for a mother and her couple kids. Now you can Afford a tip.

I cannot tell you how many times we have eaten out for free or ordered Doordash and got everything for free because of swagbucks. That way you never have to stiff the waiter. Or like i said go to a 50% off Friendlies for breakfast.
