If you are in a crowd of people and pull out high powered sawed off shotgun you could spray and kill alot of people or seriously injure them with just one buck shot. I don't think an AR-15 rifle can do that.

The longer the shot gun barrel the more distance and accuracy you target on to answer your question.

1. How many shots will you be able to take with a shotgun in a crowded crowd before getting tackled to the ground?
2. With an AR-15 with a range of 300 yards you can kill a lot of people like the guy in Vegas hotel and the one in Highland Park. An AR-15 gives you range and cover.
