My grandad did a pretty extensive family tree several years back, and found that we are related to John Glenn. Doesn't get me anywhere, but I thought it was pretty cool.

My great grandfather on my fathers side was a missionary that has been mentioned in many European history books. One of my cousins married a third cousin of Don Drysdale. He passed about 15 years ago.
Yes, an Italian painter and a North American explorer (the first European to see the Rocky Mountains), also a founder of New France a.k.a Quebec. all 3 are in the history books. There are some others also with brief mentions and most recently a swimmer. Only the first two are actually "famous" as in general encyclopedias. It was much harder to be famous years ago. Now, it's barely difficult, depending upon your social circle and locale opportunities.
I still take pride in that. The snowflakes can cry about statues and college names all they want

My wife's maiden name was "Walton".
Of course my first question when dating her was, "You mean like, Sam Walton"?
"No, she said, but my mothers maiden name is "Cody" and we are direct descendants of Buffalo Bill Cody.
OK, I can deal with that.
On my side of the family... political dissidents against the Royal Crown who promptly got their heads lopped of by guillotine.
So now you guys know where my sarcastic, fighting roots are anchored. LOL.

So, he was ahead of the Lewis & Clark expedition by about 100 years?

Bob Dylan (dam spelling) is my Ma's third cousin or something. Whatever he is, its not a blood relation it was married in.

Indeed they are. I went there on a family trip in one of those big ol' brown cargo vans back in the 80's to see a Great Aunt and visit most of them. Saint Paul and Duluth most of them. The ole' timers. Most of them gone now. Went to a Twins game at the Metrodome (was that what it was called?). Back in the Frank Viola days, Bert B. etc. That was a fun game as a kid.

George Kittle is my cousin.
I only met him once, at a family reunion, before he was a football star.

One of the pilots for the original “Top Gun” movie. Like the footage you see in that film of the jets flying is one of my relatives in the cockpit.

My father appeared in the 1951 football movie "Saturday's Hero" as an extra. In the longer version he had a speaking part. Also he was a stage hand when then filmed the famous "Singing in the Rain" scene. The studio's hired college student's during the summer time. As a kid I would get a kick watching him on the channel 9 weekly movie that would run five nights a week.

I'm a direct descendant of Alexander Kneland, who was the husband of Margaret Wallace Kneland, who was the sister of William Wallace aka Braveheart.
