Speaking of Gosling....... The new Blade Runner is excellent and getting better every time I watch it. People who know film and know what they're talking about gush about it and say over time it will be a true classic.

If you ever start an 'impossible to fully understand movie" thread let me nominate Tenet right now with Memento a close second.

Taken (2008) underrated. Imdb rating is 7.8, but I think it's even better than that. Well made movie. Liam Neeson is quite a good actor also.

Thought of another couple of underrated films.

                A Most Violent Year
                The Drop

Also as far as comedies go I really liked
                Enough Said

Thought Gandolfini was excellent in a totally different role than he always played.

                    Underrated:

Spy Game (2001) Redford and Pitt thriller.

Predator (1987) Get to the choppa! Tension packed sci-fi at its best.

                    Overrated:

Agree with op, There Will be Blood is awful. I watched it last year, knew it was highly regarded so gave it a view. I normally bail after 30 minutes or so if it's obvious the movie's bad but I stuck it out thinking it had to deliver at some point. Nope, two and a half hours I'll never get back.

The Crying Game (1992). Saw this at the theater with my gf at the time. Bored to tears, both of us. Who knows, maybe it's as good as the hype it received at the time, never had the desire to see it again.

A couple more to the list...

Overrated: Crash- saw in the theater and hated it. Insane it won best picture.

Underrated: The Great Outdoors- I haven't seen this one in a really long time so it might not hold up, but I remember there being some hilarious scenes. Like when John Candy tries to take down a big ass steak and some bear gets shot in the ass haha.

I've never anyone talk about this movie, and it's fantastic. Great twists throughout.

                                Overrated: The Boondock Saints

I think people just say they like this movie to seem interesting. It's terrible.

                                    Matchstick Men a good choice.

Confidence is another great con artist movie that many people have never heard of or seen despite it having a great cast - Ed Burns, Dustin Hoffman, Rachel Weisz, Andy Garcia, and Paul Giamatti, who is a very underrated actor imo.

Although not underrated, there is a chance a few of the younger posters here have not seen The Sting. By far the best con artist movie of all time.

Finally, Things to do in Denver when you're Dead is criminally underrated on imdb scoring just 6.8. Very good movie and Christopher Walken is excellent as usual in it.

God damn!! You're not alive if you didn't get a rush there at the end when they were coming for those camel jockies! Makes me proud to be an American! If they could've just got the axe and sunk it into the pilots head before he put it in the ground, but maybe they didn't carry an emergency axe back then? That might be a post 9/11 thing. They purposely cast real air traffic controllers and pilots, etc. but the acting was really top notch! 20th anniversary of 9/11 so I guess alot of related movies will be playing again.

Overrated and this I tend to stand alone on, is Good Will Hunting. I just think it’s a colossal turd, those pretty boys trying to pass as thugs (no one running the streets had frosted tips like that), the apples shit is corny, and the love crap was stupid, the idea of the janitor being smarter than everyone at MIT is just stupid rookie shit, “it’s not your fault” is not that moving, blah blah blah. If you disagree, try to watch it again, it does it hold up well at all

Underrated…I’ll tell you an underrated not-politically-correct comedy from the last 20 years and that’s Beer League with Artie Lange and Ralph Maccio. If you can ignore certain clunky moments and some questionable acting here and there, it really is a hilarious movie and the cast is pretty good honestly considering it’s a low budget comedy with no distribution. I’ve watched it so many times I’m damn near sick of it

For me it is The Godfather and Godfather 2 hated both of them i get a lot of crap for saying that.I would much rather watch Goodfellows,Casino and even Donnie Brasco over those 2 movies any day. There is a great Podcast out there called Gutting the Sacred Cow and a person comes on and trys to decimate a great movie that everybody loves and talks you out of liking this movie. An Example is Comic Don Jamieson form that metal show came on and tried to tear apart Die Hard.

Middle Men....yeah. I liked that movie! Luke Wilson was pretty funny and its based on a true story. I only saw it once 20 years ago or whatever, but wasn't there something in there about Taliban/Isis types watching porn, but they don't allow any dicks in their porn. So somehow they got this lesbian (is this her?) to announce some kind of a show at a certain time so they knew they could bomb them then and get alot of them))))))))))

This thread is hilarious, all this hate for Dunkirk and praise for Tarantino films. Lmao so many fools. Tarantino himself has said that Dunkirk isn't just the best war movie he's seen but the best movie he's ever seen overall. Not a big fan of the film myself but the quotes in here lacking intelligent basis is humorous.

I guess it's no surprise that everyone is fixated on actors when they should be more focused on screen writers and directors. Can't believe no one mentioned the social network, not a fan of the material but it had two of the best all time in Sorkin and fincher flexing their genius. Lmao what a reveal of intelligence this thread has made

Christopher Nolan is a superstar and almost everything he touches turns to gold much like DiCaprio and his insane hit percentage in every movie they do. I thought Dunkirk could've prepped the audience better in terms of the time frame of the movie, technology at the time and the implications of each decision to help better understand the many nuances brought about throughout the film

Isn't Nolan the Batman director with Heath Ledger? I don't get into superhero movies. My favorite is Michael Mann. Dude can really capture the energy on city streets for a crime drama! Heat is my fav movie of all time! Last of the Mohicans was special too! Only movie with the French and Indian War that I can think of?

DiCaprio is a truly great actor! Its too bad other greats like Denzel or Tom Cruise spend most of their careers beating 9 guys asses in action flicks. Keanu Reeves can't act for shit so it makes sense for him. Denzel was great in Flight! Cruise did Born on the 4th of July, etc. He can obviously really act if he'd pick a normal script. Cruise did make that movie where he was playing a real person a few years ago. He was flying drugs in a small plane for a cartel. It wasn't that good unfortunately
