Computer question--What the hell is HDMI???

When I go to Device Manager, I have sound video and game controllers. I click on High Definition Audio Device and then says This Device is working properly.

Previously, I have the Sound option and it had volume turned all the way and there was no way to access to enable. Can't figure out how I got there though.

I have done a troubleshooting and the drivers have been reinstalled. It tells me the sound is disabled. Does it want me to renable. I say Yes. It says did it fix your problem. No.

I went to sounds on the speaker option and the Sound Scheme was No Sounds. I changed to Windows Default.

I click on Speaker Setup (UNKNOWN) and it shows OFF. No choice to re-enable

I click on Open Sound Settings and the volume is set to 0. No option to change.

Yes, the problem is the computer setting has sound off. I am going to to factory install and wipe out the whole thing as soon as I figure out how on this thing.

here's the instructions on how to do so in Windows 8

after your reset is done, immediately download and install all available Windows updates for you current Win 8 system.

then once you've finished that, immediately upgrade to Windows 10 and then install all available Windows updates for your new Win 10 installation. you should be all set from there.

1. a close up of the rear of your cable modem showing all its ports
2. a close up of the rear of your computer showing all its ports

3. Drivers License

4. Social Security Card

Should he do the Last Big Update for Windows 10? I haven't done it on my HP Windows 10 computer, but I have all the other updates. The latest one gives me a choice of 3 days and then I don't see it again for about a week and I do the 3 days again. I've read how they say it will improve things with a simple "Windows Hello". I don't see any advantage to it. I'm wondering if I'll be forced to do it at some point. I still get the critical Windows 10 updates, but don't trust this one.

i've installed it on my windows machines mainly for improved security features. there's some new features and interface on the taskbar as well which you might like. if you don't, you can always turn those features off.

as for whether this update might one day be required - it's certainly possible as future builds are released. until then, if it allows you to keep it as an optional update, there's no real harm in doing so.

I think you must have figured out by now why the computer was offered on Craiglist and not at a store. Someone who didn't know what was doing built it in their garage and sold it to you. Could be a 6th grader.

If you don’t know anything about computers why are you buying a used one off Craigslist ? It would be like someone with no experience fixing cars buying a cheap car from Craigslist’s that had issues and thinking they could ask sbr for help how to fix. Lol. Decent New computers are dirt cheap these days.

Because it was a good listing on a new computer and I went and checked it out. It was dirt cheap and I had an old computer. The old one has kept on trucking.

It is still a good deal just for surfing the net. I think the repair guys knocked out the sound card somehow in breaking the password. I'll manage. I am not very particular about computers since I don't know anything about them.

He said I can fix it, but it's out of warranty and there are issues that can't be fixed. Against my better judgement I bought an HP Slimline through the mail with them. When it arrived I was uncertain how to hook it up to my new HP monitor that I thought was the real problem, before calling HP for help. The helped me on the phone every step of the way getting it hooked up. Then as we were talking I could not get Google Chrome to download. The tech did the necessary add-ons are whatever right then and there. I've had it since Windows 10 first came out and not one single issue. Paid for itself.

No, it is just a home-made sales ad. There was no risk here. It was a new computer. The lady just wanted to ditch it and take the loss and get something else. The sound worked. That was the first thing I checked. Something happened with the tech guy most likely. It is just an annoyance.

We have sound.

The problem was that the speakers were not plugged in properly. I had only plugged in the USB and not the little green thingy. When I decided to go back to the old computer, I noticed the plug was missing. The old computer would not recognize the speakers when I plugged them in which was the previous problem with the keyboard.

So switched back and we have a new computer.

I don't know why the volume was showed as X'd out though.

My PC just fried a couple days ago, had to replace nearly everything, then had to buy a new monitor because the new PC only takes HDMI.
That's how I learned what is HDMI.
