Join Hexversi tourney #3 by Jan 11th Win up to 2000 pts. SPECIAL section for Newbies.
There are 3 different ways for you to win 500 points.

#1. Win the most games(not %) in the tourney out of anyone on SBR besides myself. DanielEspinosa won this in the last tourney with 11 total wins.

#1A. In this tourney there will be a SPECIAL for Newbies(anyone besides DanielEspinosa and blankoblanco will qualify) to win 500 points. If none of the Newbies win a game, I will give 500 points to the Newbie that came closest to winning a completed game. If any of your opponents should timeout(this is not uncommon in the 1st round) you will still be credited for the win.

#2. Section Winner Prediction Picks. I will explain this more thoroughly once the tourney starts. DanielEspinosa won this in the last tourney as well.

    #3. Tourney Winner Prediction.

Also, if anyone on SBR should WIN the tourney you will win 1000 points.

To sign up for the tourney, you need to go to http://itsyourturn.com and create a username(please use your SBR name). Then go to tournament area and click on January 2021 Open Fast #1 Tournament. Find Hexversi and check the box and click submit down below.

You can practice Hexversi on the app below if you want to practice up before the tourney starts.

I am requesting that everyone that joins this tourney to give me 1 point in this post. This is simply so I can keep track of who has joined.

The tournament will start on Tuesday, January 12th. I am expecting anywhere from 30 to 50 people from IYT to join. I am going to send out the message to the regular players tomorrow.

Hexversi is a very simple game that ANYONE can learn in less than a minute. If anyone has any questions, let me know in this thread.

    Good luck!

Yes. The site is http://itsyourturn.com It's turn based, meaning you just move when it's your turn. Most players move once or twice a day or more. If you join the tourney, you will more than likely be playing 3 other players in 2 games at once. One of each color, for a total of 6 games. The player that wins the most games in each section will move on to the next round.

Once you create a username you can look through most players past games including mine. I recommend going through at least one of my games just to see what I am actually doing in my games. Here's a link to some of my games in the Hexversi Ladder:

The move numbers over 40 in the link above means a full board. I recommend going through any of them. If you can mimic my style of play you should be able to hold your own in the tourney.

You can practice vs a CPU in real time at this app:

The large board is the same as Hexversi. The Easy level is probably about how strong the average player in the tourney will be. And the Hard level is slightly above average. Mimic my style on Easy and you should be able to win fairly easily.

Also, I don't recommend over thinking your moves. I make the majority of my moves very quickly. And don't worry about piece count. Just worry about your position. A good position is usually a position with lots of options.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Also, the links won't work until you create a username and are logged in.

Another thing, as a newbie if you are the only newbie to complete a full game(full board) then you will automatically win 500 points even if you lose all of your games.

But if more than 1 newbie signs up we will go by tourney win count among the newbies unless no newbies win a game then we will go by who was closest to winning a game on a full board.

Did you sign up for the tourney yet? As of right now, it looks as if you are the only newbie that has signed up so far. This should be an easy 500 points for you. If no other newbie's sign up, all you have to do is complete a full game and you will win the 500 points automatically.

This tournament is a capitalist perspective

Why should the WINNER get the most points?

Why not give everyone on SBR equal points?

It isnt my fault I think you are a fukkin moron, thats just how I was raised

The tourney starts tomorrow. Today is the last day to join. As of right now, there are no newbies from SBR signed up to my knowledge. That means if just one newbie signs up, they will win 500 points if they play a completed game(win or lose, but you can't resign or timeout to win the 500 points).

Sign up today!! This is a free 500 points to anyone that wants it.

I'm in as SBRIan. I think I may have played Othello once when I was 10, that's the extent of my experience. It should be fun.

I haven't heard from Blanko yet... are you in Blanko?

37 have signed up for the tourney at IYT so far. I am hoping we can get that to at least 40.

                                The tournament has started!

There are 10 different Sections. Please post your Section winner predictions before Thursday the 14th. And post your overall Tournament Winner as well.

For the Section winner predictions, you may copy anyone else's picks but if there is a tie, the person who put in their picks first will win the tie-breaker. I will make my Section winner picks last. And if there is a tie, the tie will go to you guys. The points you get for each correct Section winner pick will correspond with what Round we are in. e.g. round 1, each correct pick is worth one point each. Round 2, two points each and so on. When the tourney is over, the person with the highest number of Section Prediction points will win 500 points if he has at least as many prediction points as myself.

For the overall tournament winner, once a pick is taken it can't be selected again. You can't pick Holden2341, as that is my choice. Let me know if you have any questions about anything else. Good luck!

Not a problem. You're in! If you have the balls to pick yourself, you get an extra day.

Playing with confidence is a must against the stronger players.

                                            Sections of interest to me:

#2 mariukkas is a complete mystery to me because I don't know if he saw my post on either Reddit or Facebook, but he just signed up to IYT just a few days ago. His openings are strong, I can tell that already. This guy might be the sleeper in the tourney. This is my upset pick for this round.

#3 This is the strongest Section(not counting robert sawyers) in IMO. Toptal is the only player that has had a tougher schedule than blanko in the last 3 tourneys IMO. He's played me twice, Ryan twice, blanko twice, urantian twice, as well as Daniel, dmoresco, Hjalti, and now Jon. That's brutal. I'll be fairly surprised if he goes unbeaten here although I do expect him to advance.

#5 Covid19 could give Snazzy a run. 6-0 will be impressive.

#6 I think Andy could take this section. This one was a coin flip for me. Chair-Man could make things interesting as well.

#8 I'm really excited to see WHUFC in this tourney because I used to play him in Hexversi regularly in 2018 and 2019. I'm the only player he's ever played and he's got 4 wins against me. He's got over 5 thousand Reversi games under his belt, winning several tournaments. He's a good player. I fully expect him to go 6-0 here. I'm looking forward to see him play some stronger players in the next round.

#9 Scott Sitar and Joshua will keep blanko on his toes here. Going 6-0 will be impressive.

#10 I think maitreg could give Daniel a run here. Going 6-0 will be impressive here as well.

I'll give a 100 point instant bonus to anyone that goes 6-0 in this round.

Well, you could join the Hexversi Ladder at http://itsyourturn.com and I can tell you which players are terrible and you can challenge them. I can give you a few simple pointers and you should be able to beat them.

OR, you can practice regular Othello vs a fairly simple CPU here. https://www.mathsisfun.com/games/reversi.html

Click New Game and click the checkmark to begin. The theory is the same so, if you can get good at Othello/Reversi, you will do well at Hexversi.

                                                Good luck!

I'm trying to keep DanielEspinoza from coming back and waiting for maitreg to move... I think our games will get done sometime around the next Presidential inauguration.

Congrats!!! You just earned yourself 500 points.

The games moving along so slowly takes some getting used to. When you have several games going at once it doesn't seem as bad.

In the Hexversi Ladder, you can challenge up to 2 people and up to 2 people can challenge you. So, you can never have more than 4 games going on at once in the Ladder. Let me know if you have any questions.

I've had fun with this so far. I'm looking forward to playing some ladder games. I've figured a few things out, but I definitely have more to learn. In every game so far there has been a point where I thought I had my opponent crushed and then in 1 move my position becomes very tenuous.

                                                      Thanks again for the points.

The very nature of the game is very paradoxical. Just being able to read the board, and understand what is actually happening is pretty much what the game is all about.

I see you joined the Ladder. I recommend challenging either frank, robertsawyers, Freddo, Mythika, or moose for your first couple of games.

You should be able to challenge people from this page:

The players with Yes next to their name are the players you can challenge.
