This would make sense, if not wearing a seat belt caused you to be a higher risk to kill others, not just yourself.
Better example would be parents who purposely have their kids NOT wear seat belts. It's my right, don't tread on me blah blah. In the end, their decision adversely affected others.
In countries with socialized medicine, I can see why seat belts and helmets for motorcycles are mandatory. (since the medical system shared by all will bear the brunt of people sustaining much greater injuries)Comment -
But it’s really not is it? I enjoy being a asshole as much as the next guy. I have serious issues with the shutdowns and crap, but the mask when indoors around others is really a very small ask in the grand scheme of things.
If the experts think wearing one will prevent shutting down again and get our sports back then I will wear the mask! There tons of laws and rules that infringe upon freedom way more than this! And if there even a chance wearing the mask is helping out others we should be happy to do so! Nothing wrong with being decent every now and again!!Comment -

Israel with mandatory masks the last two months and much more strict than USA curve looks like FLA and about to lockdown again
South Africa with mandatory mask the last two months and record number of cases the last week
Norway, Finland, Switzerland, New Zealand, Denmark with 0 mask usage and some of the countries with the best results.
CNN and MSNBC with there 24/7 masks are the cure message is 100% false

Then your selfish if you dont wear a mask
Now were going to close back down if you don't wear a mask
Now need to wear masks outside and in your home

It's crazy that it's so political. Anti science people always believe there are dark motives behind anything branded by science. Someone posted in here how they instinctively don't trust doctors. Sweet jesus.
Hyper political people always believe everything either helps or hurts them. No concern about right or wrong, just is this a net gain or loss politically.
The ones whining about the mixed messaging are the same people who whine when a scientific study says eggs are good, then eggs are bad, then eggs cure cancer, then eggs cause cancer. Science is not religion (or pure faith based belief in things). The scientific method is based on hypothesis and begs to be proven wrong. It's based on the best current available evidence. That's why things are called the THEORY of evolution or The Big Bang THEORY. Theories can be tested. If it's the best theory, people talk about it like fact, but theories are just that, supposition based on available evidence.
The evidence is that in countries where
- mass testing was done early
- those who tested positive were isolated/quarantined
- masks were predominately used
The level of infection dropped. It doesn't mean they beat the virus.
Since the vast majority of "high risk" people are still isolating, it makes sense you'll see a much lower death rate right now. With post virus symptoms like heart/lung damage or even neurological issues, it's easy for people to say "let's all get it and build up herd immunity so I can enjoy The 'Bama game".
It's just sad that it seems like we have a pretty good idea of what will bring us back to even partial normalcy, and it's being painted as "my ability to infect you" is couched as a freedom/liberty thing.
Past generations had no choice and went and fought wars in places they never heard of, for people who'd never get to thank them. Those behind went without foods and goods to support a war effort that didn't appear to even be directly a threat to the homeland.
Some in this generation think wearing a mask when they go to Costco is too much of a sacrifice.
When the virus first began spreading, talk of masks was from a health care perspective. N95 masks, face shields were thought to be the best way for health care workers to try and prevent becoming infected. The thinking at first was "how to not catch it". With a limited supply of N95 masks available, the surgeon general was stuck basically trying to say "leave the masks for the health care workers" which to many would translate to "their lives are more valuable than yours".
As understanding of the spread evolved, and through witnessing other countries and their mass use of masks, it seemed to be that the biggest cause of spread was through droplets expelled from the mouth. So while not ideal, cloth masks cut down the spread significantly (up to 95% by some estimates). It still won't stop you from catching it - but as previously said, if you're a carrier without symptoms, it'll cut down your ability to share it with who knows how many people.Comment -

I don’t trust dr’s one bit. I think trusting them is just as crazy as you seem to think not trusting Them is! We are talking about a group of ppl who caused a opioid epidemic peddling drugs for the pharmacy industry.

All Americans who need Emergency treatment get it regardless of whether or not they have health insurance.
Who pays for it?
People who have health insurance and this is only one of the reasons premiums are so high.
The biggest reason for high premiums is the for profit medical system.

Go ahead and bring a gun through the TSA. Go hunt some game and sell it on the side of the road. Import some toothpaste from china and sell it to schools. Go film some porn with 17 year olds. Got a bunch of land, grow poppies and sell the amazing products you can make from it.

That's pretty much everywhere. Most civil societies aren't going to refuse to treat someone who is having a heart attack or whatnot.
They get treatment in emergency, and then get a bill (assuming they have no insurance). Whether they can pay it or not is another question as a brain injury can run into the millions for costs.
My point was, if a society has a nationalized health plan, then things like seat belts and helmets are justifiably laws as those who refuse to wear them will invariably have a negative impact on trying to keep costs in line. (as do people who make other poor lifestyle choices, but in the case of those 2, there's a direct line between the act and the cost.)Comment -

Between 55-75 3.1 million domestic deaths in Vietnam, of which the US suffered 47,000 deaths.
The US military kills at the most effective rate in world history. It is a civilian lead military, hence the politicians are weaklings when it comes to wiping opponents off this planet. Which, had we done in '19 or '45 or '73 or '91 we'd be in a much safer and cleaner world, but inevitably you have the liberals and their dovish attitude towards life and reform of enemies so we now to their liberalism and go clean up their mess every generation thereafter.Comment
