Created tracking for southern states a couple days ago, to see Covid 19 trends amid the more rapidly and less restrictive “reopening” states, which are mostly in the south – and there are no surprises. Florida leads the pack, with a governor in lockstep with Trump, all but denying the existence of the Coronavirus, despite what the numbers are showing. And, rather than responding with a rethinking of Florida’s random and mostly unrestricted “reopening”, and starting a protocol of cluster or contact testing, DeSantis persists in his haphazard “economic” jumpstart, and a largely pointless and very extensive program of antibody testing. Of course, following the Trump playbook on Covid 19 “response”, along with blaming protestors, DeSantis blames testing itself for an exploding rate of infection – but, nothing to worry about, everything is just peachy keen. Floridians will be paying a price for buying their governor’s lies - a price that will be harder to bear in the coming months.
I take back what I said about “no surprises”. Despite a population rank of 6th among the 16 states listed, Tennessee’s numbers are surprisingly good. I haven’t looked into this yet, so I have no ready explanation – but they must be doing something right.
