I'm a Jack Gold Label fan. Also Basil Hayden's is pretty awesome.

For me it’s Jameson Rarest Vintage Reserve Irish Whiskey but it’s pricey.
Some of the smoothest and best priced is RedBreast

Correct!
A nice textbook whiskey is Jack Daniels Single Barrel.
But I prefer Hudson Baby Bourbon or Garrison Brothers Bourbon.

Makes me think of a "Safety Brief" the Sergeant Major gave to the battalion once prior to a long 4th of July weekend:
"Stay hydrated. Drink lots of water. I drink a lot of water. But I like my water frozen and surrounded by bourbon!"

I think we need to differentiate between scotch, bourbon, and whiskey (Irish and Canadian). I am fond only of the latter as my father was never a fan of scotch, therefore neither was I, which I regret because scotch is so much more complex and sophisticated than either whiskey or bourbon. Bourbon is too smokey for me so I routinely reach for what I believe is the best - Crown Royal's premium offering, Crown Royal Reserve. However, there are so many brands on the market that it's impossible to try them all and I am always looking for suggestions.

Enjoy Laphroaig for the peaty flavor of the barley.
Tastes like the wonderful, sweet campfires of my youth.
Usually drink the 10 year old.

As Swinging Johnson said above, 'whiskey' covers alot of territory. Prior to this past March I was a bourbon guy but I took a vacation in March which included Ireland and got a taste of Teeling Irish Whiskey. Fantastic stuff. Hard to find here but not impossible--I've bought it a few times during the chinavirus lockdown from a couple of different internet sites. It's about $45 for the 750ml bottle. Another is Connemara. It's not quite as smooth as Teeling but has a bit of a smoky taste due to the peat.
