#492Maybe because the world doesn't revolve around news surrounding offshore gambling websites. There's plenty of more significant tragedies going on in other places that the US doesn't even bother to give attention to. You think the owner of an offshore book getting kidnapped in Costa Rica is going to move the needle? Please.Comment -

#496The owner of online sportsbook 5Dimes has reportedly been found dead in Cost Rica after an apparent kidnapping late last month.
On Saturday, the Costa Rica Star reported that the Judiciary Investigative Police (OIJ) had recovered the body of 43-year-old William Sean Creighton, known throughout the online gambling industry as ‘Tony’. The OIJ has yet to publicly confirm the report.
Last week, the OIJ announced that Creighton’s wife had reported his disappearance on September 25, after he failed to arrive home after departing his office the previous evening. The OIJ claimed to have no evidence for the reason behind his disappearance, but local media reported that Creighton’s wife had received a phone call from his kidnappers just hours after he went missing.
Creighton’s wife reportedly transferred anywhere from US$750k-$1m in cryptocurrency to his alleged kidnappers after speaking to Creighton on the phone, but this ransom wasn’t followed by Creighton’s release. His car was found crashed into the gate of a rural property, but Creighton’s whereabouts remained unknown until the OIJ announced the finding of his body Saturday.
News of Creighton’s disappearance prompted rampant speculation in online forums regarding 5Dimes’ future, which in turn prompted the book’s management to issue a statement last week reassuring customers that “the fundamentals of 5Dimes Group operating model remain unchanged.” 5Dimes has yet to issue a public response to the report of Creighton’s death.
Creighton had a well-earned reputation for being extremely blunt in his communications with 5Dimes customers, but the book had been an online betting mainstay for two decades and there appears little reason to assume that the business won’t carry on as usual despite Creighton’s death.
Costa Rica was once the primary hub of the online sports betting industry, and reports of violent crime weren’t uncommon in those early ‘wild west’ days. Local media has reported a recent rise in abductions of foreign nationals, including US and Chinese ex-pats, suggesting that industry members who continue to operate in the region may need to take extra precautions to ensure their safety.Comment -

#501Having lived in Latin America for quite some time, I don't blame you. It's a very scary situation, especially for people with children. There was a high profile kidnapping that went down a stones throw from my house a few years ago. That's why I try to stay broke and unimportant. It's just not worth the risk.Comment -

#504Not all the time. Look at Natalie Halloway. Everyone knows who did it but he never was charged because there was not enough evidence. Even after he tried to extort money from the mother and killed another girl in a hotel because he got mad she looked at his laptop he never had to spend 1 second in jail because of Halloway. And if they got the cash already they could be long gone.Comment -

These third world poor Countries have little law and order and yes you can get away with it.. You don't have city cameras every where and snitches like here in America. You don't have quality detectives either willing to really work the cases like here in America.. Completely different ball game. We got local law enforcement and the FBI if really needed.. DEA and Marshals... We got ICE even...
You got Cartels and criminals in charge and running the show in Mexico and South America mostly... Paid to play officials also.. Etc... Night and Day JJ...Comment -

#512Investigators: Wife Set Up Hit
The body of William Sean “Tony” Creighton may have been found Friday morning in Guápiles, buried in a banana farm. Authorities are running tests to see if the body is that of the 5Dimes owner. Creighton’s Porche was run off the road after Creighton left work at 10 p.m. on September 24 to drop off a co-worker. Two men on motorcycles and two men in a BMW SUV forced Creighton’s sports car off the road, forced him out of his car and into the BMW. After Creighton’s laptop and mobile phone were located, investigators determined Creighton’s wife, a Costa Rican native, is behind the plot to kidnap and kill him. Creighton’s wife reportedly transferred $750,000 to members of her own family in a ruse designed to look like a kidnapping-for ransom plot. Former FBI agents hired by Creighton’s family in Virginia are working with Costa Rican authorities to get to the bottom of the case. The American investigators are encountering problems working with the Costa Rican police, including a disagreement on how the Americans brought their weapons into the small Central American nation.
We have an update. According to our confidential sources, the Costa Rican authorities were considering enforcing an extradition order from the US Justice Department. Authorities from the US were seeking Creighton’s extradition on money laundering charges. There is evidence now to suggest Creighton, who was well known to be well-connected in the Costa Rican government, was tipped off and fled to Cuba. Our sources have confirmed the nearly one-million-dollar “ransom” paid by his wife was cashed and converted near Havana, Cuba. Considering Creighton’s “kidnapping” supposedly occurred over a month ago before the news broke, the entire story seems far-fetched. At this point, a kidnapping/murder plot is becoming less and less believable.
In any event, we hope Tony is safe.Comment -

#517If I had the time and patience, a search of his name should be able to produce an extradition order, as it requires a judge to sign off on it.
These offshore stories always seem odd. From this one with Tony to Ken Weitzner convincing his wife to kill herself because they were in debt. These stories are crazy.Comment -

Oh ok because i thought maybe it was referring to the wife she had his last name i assume . And she transferred the money and fled to Cuba. If she was in on it i would figure if she was not totally stupid that she would be running off to get a piece of the $750000. But yea if it was him running off that would make more sense . But was there even a body then or this guy had money maybe paid some key people to fake it all?Comment -
