Religion is a broad word. Some religions bring bad and some bring good. Can't group all under one category. I believe morality is objective. For ex. People would agree that rape, or injuring an innocent child to cause pain are always wrong. Why are they always wrong and how do we know they are wrong? Because morality is objective. Since morality is objective it must be that somebody gave us this moral law. Where there is a law there is a law-giver. An atheist can me moral, just like a religious person can act immorally. All humans are flawed and we need to be saved from our sins.

I would say it has a mild moderating impact on the world. Young males like to fight and old rich males like for them to fight to gain them power. So you are going to have your war anyway. Religion is just a good way to get them worked up. Propaganda is very effective and it doesn't have to be religious-based. Anything will do.

In fact, religion is something of product of war. Christianity originated from a crazy Jewish waring tribe and their tribal war lord and war god Yahweh who taught them how to spread the booty which they obtained with his good graces and direction.
