Thanks Robyn, I actually find that to be very high praise. I've been dealing with various law enforcement officials since I was 13, so I picked up early on just how much detail needs to be included in a story to get the listener to buy it. I realize that maybe I made the story sound a little too good, but I expected a far more skeptical audience on an Internet forum. To see how seriously everyone took this matter without taking time to evaluate the elements was shocking.
I suppose it's easy to misconstrue my intentions as attention-seeking, but really the whole thread was just an attempt to inject some drama into Players Talk since it'd become bogged down with sports talk. I thought the whole arc of my charade was priceless humor, but I guess it only seemed that way to people who share my reasons for being here. I figured that everyone took what was said on SBR as lightly as I did, but I learned otherwise through this experience. But you hit the edgy social commentary part on the head. While I was amusing myself, I presumed that the end-result should be an "awakening" as to the nature of internet forums and the level of scrutiny that they should receive.
I'm sorry if I traded on my credibility with you, Mudcat. You've always been a gentleman to me, and one of my favorite posters. You and I sit on opposite sides of the stiff debate, as to whether or not the behavior is reprehensible, but everytime you join a debate you never fail to elevate the intelligence of the discussion. Thanks for not adding me to your Ignore list. Yours is one I'd particularly care to avoid.
As usual Bread, you break things down to the brass tacks. I can't argue with a single thing you said here. I'm sorry I ended up piling negative attention on you and your lovely wife when I first came here, I can't think of any people that I've misjudged more grievously than the two of you. You're both outstanding people and I'm glad we've been able to patch things up since those days.
It's true, I traded on my credibility on this forum because it seemed less valuable than a day filled with laughs. I'm just here to pass the slow months between growing seasons, and so I really just mess around here without realizing that some people do genuine community-building here. I'll leave it to others to comment on whether or not that's even healthy, but I wanted to acknowledge my oversight on that issue. In the future, I'll let the people that want to build little LEGO houses and be virtual neighbors in SBRville a wider berth. It's scary to see those people riled up...
In closing, I'm happy to be back from sunny San Francisco and here in my favorite playground with you guys. Let's have some fun and enjoy the college hoops action.
