#92511Don't forget that if you are using a formula and want to put a percentage type probability in the formula, but also need to include the opposite, you don’t need use both variables.
For a simple example, say you are using win percentage, specifically, the percentage a team wins to develop a prediction but your formula requires the losing percentage of the other team in as a factor as well.
If The Gay Bays have a 70% win rate and the Cheeseheads have a 40% win rate, then we could multiply the win probability of the Gay Bays (.70) buy the losing probability of the Cheeseheads (.60) but that would two variables…win rate and loss rate.
To keep the variable at just win rate, you can express the loss rate of a team in terms of wins.
Cheese loss = (1-Cheese win) which is (1 - .4) = .60
It’s why in this example that the numerator in bill james’ old log5 formula looks like this…
(A – AB)
where each letter is the probability of that team winning. It is the same as team A winning multiplied by team B losing…
A (1-B) = A – AB
But that’s just the numerator and I write this to get the mind thinking about applying just the one positive variable in an excel or whatever formula.
It’s also to lean us in the direction of James’ log5 but not just to blindly use the formula, to get to the little known meat of that formula…
Log5 is as follows, where X is the win % of team X and Y is the win % of team Y…
Probability X beats Y = (X – XY)/(X + Y – 2XY)
This can be found anywhere but it’s not the meat of what I want to talk about even though this post is so long. I want to talk about we mean by (X is the win %of X and Y is the win % of Y) because I don’t just mean their actual win percentage.
That’s just an example. Obviously we need to put more into it, and that’s what I want to accomplish. Bill James and his boy Dallas called it a talent or skill level and I want to take it back to Plato.
I want to address just what it is that is put in front of the fire that results in what we observe on the wall, or those stats we see. If we convert our “win %” to an actual, measurable and comparable rating assessment, then we can do it with any sport and any set of comparable stats.
We will do this, but in future posts.

Truthfully, what really happened was that the KBO baseballs were "de-juiced" last year.
You'll see it in the stats going from 2018 to 2019. This year started hot, or the juice is back. We'll see.
It's definitely an offensive oriented league for sure, that's usually tough on the pitchers over time.

#92539Found this one too...
Also, the KBO teams are named after the businesses that own them...LG Twins, Samsung Lions, etc.
We're looking at 144 games where 10 teams play each other 16 times.
There will be a tie game declared after 12 innings. I believe it's 15 in the playoffs.
Let's not forget the long lost art of the bat flip...check out 2:25...
